Spaying Bullmastiffs

Hello all, How long did you wait to spay your Bull mastiff. I have two boys I would like to breed them just one but mostly likely won't there are not many people in my area with B.M. . But I want to get them both spayed. I have read you should wait till 18 months when their hormone plates close, but after talking with my vet she said it is ok to have my oldest who is 10 months spayed anytime now..He is not aggressive but he plays like a 158 lb puppy with his little brother who is 60 lbs and just about 5 months. He does hump a little but nothing to that i wouldn't consider normal for a male dog. what is everyone thoughts on this.

The word for altering a male dog is neutering. The word for altering a female dog is spaying.

18 months at a minimum. Early neuters are linked to hip dysplasia, cruciate disease, osteosarcoma and obesity, among a few other things.

Also, please don't breed your dogs until you're planning on OFA hip/cardiac and CERF eye testing them, as well as getting outside input on their overall conformation and temperaments. There are too many people breeding puppies in this world who shouldn't be.
