So how many out there are "clean freaks" with dogs.

Re: So how many out there are "clean freaks" with dogs.

I use to be very OCD, so bad I would re-load the dishwasher, re-stack the dishes, re-organize the silverware drawer, even balance my eggs in the egg carton... but I've lost too many people and pets too young that I'd rather spend time with them dirtying the dishes and getting drool on my work clothes then miss the time spent with them... don't get me wrong, dishes & laundry & floor get done, but chores will always be there, my pets & people wont... (mil just lost her 16 yr old cat today)

Well said I agree with you 100%...the chores do get done when they need to get done but they will always be there no matter what...but I too have learned my pets and people won't be so if I choose to spend time with them and not clean one day that's OK in my books...I too go to work often with drool and hair on my clothing and that's OK too I wouldn't have it any other way...My husband and I have a philosophy at our house as we have some very anal anti-pet people in our families..." This is how we live and we are very happy if you don't like it you really don't have to visit"
Sorry to hear about your loss...Judy

6 dogs, 3 cats, 2 parrots, all in the house. I sweep every day, mop when I can't stand it anymore & the rest will get done when I get to it. I'd rather spend time enjoying my fur baby's. Life's too short to sweat the small stuff. My friends & family know me & know how I live. If you can't stand hair, slobber or wet puppy kisses don't come to my house!!

So true. I had a bad experience when I went to stay at a friends house that owned animals. I love animals too but the place was disghusting to say the least. Not once but twice with two different people. I told myself I would never live like that. Cat urine is some strong stuff.

Lol!! No doubt! My cats' litter box is out in the screen room. My house is just comfortably "lived in.". Never disgustingly filthy but you'll never find it in Better Homes & Gardens!!! Lmao!!

I've had a similar experience with a friend who had kept 6 cats......let's just say it was 6 cats and the cats were a little much, ignoring the litter box and such, and as a pet owner I know some days you get the case of the eff its but not everyday when there is cat poop all in you're wardrobe and you're carpet. hair fine welcome to a per owners house, poop on carpet not so much....:cringe: my OCD senses start tingling

I MAKE time to clean the litter box! No excuses on that one. I won't have cat pee/poop in the house. I HATE going into someone's house & your nose burns from the smell of urine/feces,,there just isn't an acceptable excuse for that!! Cat/dog hair..fine, it is what it is for the most part. But at least when you walk in my house you don't smell an "animal" smell.

Hmmm 6 dogs, 2 cats, 2 kids... nope clean is not a word in my vocabulary at the moment :) The house gets swept nightly to take the bulk of the hair up and once a week we vacuum and I "try" once a week to get the floors mopped but if it is mud season here I don't bother :) If my house isn't perfect it is because I am spending my free time with my kids and dogs :)
Not so many animals (2 dogs, a cat, a bunny and a guinea pig) and only one child who has special needs but this is exactly my mentality as far as cleaning. Not to mention we technically live in a cottage right now. Once we move into a bigger home this winter I'll probably be a little more anal about cleaning but right what's the point?

its possible to be a clean freak in a house with dogs/other animals and not go completely crazy????

I do have cats, I bought (and pay lots and lots to repeatedly buy cause the damn things break) powered litter boxes that clean themselves, expensive but worth it cause it does a MUCH better job at staying clean and not smelling than me trying to do it by hand.

We do vacuum once a week, rugs/soft furniture/etc, but otherwise? If you walk into my house unprepared for the animals then to bad for you!

Yep Tiger that sounds about right.

Tiger and Jeri I have a close friend like that, she means well but she has too much to handle by herself. I try to help her out when I can. Truth is the flooring needs to be redone to get rid of the smell.

Ruth what powered litter box do you have?

i've tried most of the Littermaids (they barely last 6 months, the older ones were great, newer models suck). I currenty have a Smart Scoop (better than the littermaids but still not thrilled), and a Litter Robot. The Litter Robot is the only one I'd recommend (I've had it for two years and it still runs perfectly) but due to the style of it, it won't work for all cats. I've looked at the round self cleaning ones (including the fancy self washing litter one) and though I like the concept I can see several potential major fail points and the reviews back me up.

The Litter Robot? It is, and their customer service is awesome. The one time I had a problem (the plug failed) it was just out of warrenty. Not only did they help me trouble-shoot, they sent me the replacement part at no charge so long as I'd return the faulty one to them.

... Just two dogs, twin 5yr olds and a 12 yr old but man can they make a mess! The house gets a top to bottom scrubbing (all floors, carpets, bath, etc) twice a week and cabinet wipe downs every other day... If it needs anything else... it just has to wait. I'm lazy. Ha. My car on the other hand has slobber on the back seats. Perhaps when I finish school I'll wash it off. Ha!

I'm anal about my car as soon as Thor leaves it I'm wiping, powering, and vacuuming. Got to take care of my other baby. ;)

the cleanliness of my car is pretty much a lost cause now. I have leather seats inside and I have pretty much given up -.-. I recently bought a back seat protector type thinger... but mostly now it is a rule that we take the blazer if we are taking the dogs some where instead of mine :)

I'm no clean freak but I do vacuum everyday, I have kids that play on the floor and I try to make sure most of the hair is cleaned up.

Re: So how many out there are "clean freaks" with dogs.

I'm a bit of a clean freak. I vacuum and do the floors every day, and then hubby and I both clean the kitchen every day. Neither of us can stand having dishes in the sink. Plus we'll get an ant problem if we leave stuff on the counter. We shampoo the family room carpet once a month too. And I don't let the dogs upstairs because I hate having dog hair in our bedrooms and bathroom. So I try to reduce it by keeping them downstairs. And if it's warm enough outside, the dog bed, water, and food bowls get put outside for the day (when we are home of course) so they can be as messy as they want outside.
Blue (our catahoula mix) blows her coat out about twice a year, and those few weeks are a living hell for me. I brush her for a half an hour each morning outside, and then vacuum about twice a day to keep my sanity.

Re: So how many out there are "clean freaks" with dogs.

Due to recent events I do have to wonder. I mentioned before that I am OCD yet I have a German Mastiff and looking to add another to my family. I alternate between vacuuming and swiffering everyday. I also mop the floors at least once a week, sometimes twice a week depending on how "bad" the floor is. I wipe the walls, appliances, doors, and anything else tagged daily. What's everyone else's cleaning schedules like.

Oh, I vacuum every other to every day, including hardwoods and tiled floors. But I have found the easiest way to get this done every day is to have a couple of daughters help you. LOL My girls are 7 and 4 yrs. The 7yr old vacuums/sweeps and the 4yr old has to pick up the puppy toys and wipe our EM's mouth after every time she drinks. :) So far it is working great. And Mamie(our EM) reminds us to make sure our shoes are put up too...
