Smelly Puppy

Hi Everyone,

So I have had my baby Stella for 7 months now and she still has that puppy smell and no matter how much I take her to the groomers or if I wash her. She only last about 3 days not smelling but starts smelling again. Do you guys have any suggestions on what products I should use or what I should do with her.

Thanks,

I'm not quite sure I understand what you mean by 'that puppy smell'. It's unpleasant? Have you had mastiffs before, and if so, did they smell differently?

My experience with our EM is that his smell is quite different from other breeds we have kept, and it is a strong smell -- but we don't find it unpleasant....can you describe her smell a bit more?

Sometimes if their ears are floppy, they can get yeast infections so be sure that it is not the eats that smell....With Kazmaier, you can bath him and he smells real nice but then days later, will get that doggie smell, around his head area)..I finally realized that it was his collar that was making him smell so much and even was staining his fur underneath....!! changed that now so it hasnt been as bad since then

That's not because of floppy ears. That's most likely a food allergy!

I'd look at the food... some things will effuse through the skin (like garlic in humans).
Could be a food sensitivity.

Other than that... "that puppy smell" is normally a sweet smell that you're sad to see go... so, yeah, a more descriptive explanation of what you don't like might help??

These dogs are also known for having oily skin. When Jake was a puppy we bathed him weekly, now that he's older he can go 2-3 weeks without a bath. I know there are others on here who bath their dogs weekly as well. From some of the suggestions on here I use Dawn regular dish soap and occasionally baby shampoo to bath him, I find they lather up better than dog shampoos and I don't have to use as much.

Our Neo, Bubbles had an awful smell when we got him. I figured it was the wrinkles around his face and used apple cider vinegar, a tablespoon or so on a wash cloth and water, then wiped his wrinkles with it. Works great and only had to do it twice in 3 months.
