Scary encounter with Jiggers

Today I took Jiggers to Waterton Lakes International Peace Park (too hot for Kryten even if his leg was being a problem) to do some hiking. Due to people not following the rules some of the deer in the town site can be agressive. I've come across agressive deer before when walking a dog but nothing like this one. This one was scary. First it came out of nowhere to face off with us. We took a very wide berth to get around it while other people made sure they were between us and the deer. It got around them and chased us down 3x. At one point I think the only reason we weren't attacked was because I managed to get a car between us and while it was trying to figure out which way to go the crowd caught up. At the end there were about 10 men most with some sort of long stick that surrounded it and we're driving it away while Jiggers and I took off behind a building in hopes that out sight might make it give up. It's been almost 4 hours and I'm still shaking as I think about it.

That is really something else! I've never experienced such a thing, but that can't have been fun. Surprised that Jiggers didn't scare it away just by being what Jiggers is.

The local mule deer will turn and charge to scare away predators but once it is clear they are leaving or if there are humans with them they just stand their ground. This one didn't care that there were several humans or that Jiggers was paying it absolutely no attention and moving away. It was out to get him. It was marked as agressive so he clearly wasn't the first and unless they relocate it he likely won't be the last. As a result I posted a warning to all the local Facebook pet pages. Had I known I wouldn't have walked in that area.

If it was marked as aggressive why isn't it killed? Glad you escaped !

In the park they are protected unless it has been known to attack humans. This one goes after dogs. You are warned that the deer can be agressive towards dogs. I've just never experienced one this bad before. None of what normally works when dealing with agressive deer worked.

LMAO! I'm glad they know the intent..... if i'm standing right next to my dog and this critter is behaving aggressively, it is good to know you can ask their intentions. http://www.mastiff-forum.com/images/smilies/lolbangtable.gif

Deer are nasty when aggravated! They can do serious damage with their feet. I wonder if a bear spray or something like that would deter it.
