So Bear is being picked up Christmas Eve. He is a Christmas morning surprise for a 7 year old little girl. The couple picked him because of his laid back attitude and complete disinterest to chew things up and bite. He is ultra laid back. Today he started getting whiney and when I console him he starts humping me. I do not know how to correct this behaviour. All I know is he is the biggest pup at 21.7 lbs at 8 1/2 weeks old. If he does this to this little girl he will scratch her up and he is pretty strong. He only started this today. He never even did this to his littermates. None of them ever humped anything. Everything I have read about ascerting my dominance I do not like. Is there any positive way. He has no interest in this Kong.

When Apollo tried humping I pushed him sideways (not a knock down, a push to the hips to get him off balance and get his attention) at the same time as saying NO firmly. Didn't take very long to get through his head.

Hopefully I can get him understanding some before he leaves. I know pups do this, but these did not Zeus never has so I thought we were in the clear. I still need to call Rusty and let him know about this. Just wierd he started to do it. He is a cutie though. IMG_20121216_175524.jpgIMG_20121210_224354.jpg

The environment change (loss of sibs) was likely the trigger. Why I can't say, insecurity, or a chance to dominate? No clue. Hopefully he'll take the correction quickly though!

Cutie!

Aww man, i'm getting attached to Bear. He is such a good puppy. I can't find it in my heart to not let him go to his new home. I have been sitting here hoping they would call and say they had decided on a chihuaha or something. I didn't think it was going to be this hard letting go of them.

i swear sometimes, a pup can really still the heart right out of you. i have probably had 10 or so dogs in my life. but only two that have just killed me to be apart from. ones that you say afterwards ," I will never own a dog again."

Happy Christmas and New Year to my fellow mastiff lovers. I have been uber depressed over the past couple of weeks. I miss the puppies terribly. It is just not the same around here. I am in constant contact with 3 of the pup's new parents. The others have not returned emails to let me know if the pups were adjusting so hopefully it is okay, but it has me sick to my heart. The little female we called Gator is now as big as Bear was and is named Dixie. Bear is already 26 pounds has bonded completely with his 6 year old girl and they renamed him Gus. Trooper is 18 pounds and was renamed Gator. It is a small world I can't believe they ended up with each others names. On a more pisitive note my big kids are happy again. Nikki is getting spayed this Friday. Her weight is good and it's time. She has been destroying the house every time we leave since the pups left, but we will get past it. Here is tonight lazy tv time. IMG_20130106_182038.jpg

That is probly the biggest reason why I'd not want to breed myself, I'd not want to let the pups go! You'll manage, you did so very well! Glad to hear the pups are doing ok!
