  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Red rocket!

Yes! thats what its called, I was to lazy to go look it up. Actually Apollo generally keeps himself clean just fine, I have a theory as to why he was producing so much last fall, we'll have to see what happens in the next couple months to see if I'm right or not (the vet looked at me like I'd grown horns, apparently he doesn't see enough intact primitive males to have any idea...).

Speaking of which, since we're on the subject of gross personal matters.....those if you with your first intact, young, male: if you notice a bright (almost flourescent) yellowish greenish discharge on the end of his penis its normal, its called smegma, and as long as he's keeping himself clean you don't have to worry about it ;)

Thank you, Ruth!! I was just about to ask that question!! Ruger has it quite a bit but he does keep himself clean. :)

That's funny! I am always fascinated by what people name it! All of my boys have had their stuff out, I say they are cooling it! HA! I think its just a normal thing, esp when they are relaxed. My current OEM is 5 months today and occasionally he humps his Lion King Stuffed Animal for a second or two and gives my husband that look when he teases him. The teasing usually makes him stop. He hasn't tried to on anything else and hopefully won't.

Heh, I had a mild freakout the first time I ever saw the smegma. It LOOKS like it ought to be a really nasty discharge.....the only time its really an issue is if the dog starts over producing it and doesn't clean it fast enough (or just isn't good about keeping himself clean), it apparently can work its way into the uretha and cause a UTI. Not a common problem from what I can find, but thats what the vet was worried had happened to Apollo.

I am so glad to hear that. Ruger seems to keep himself clean enough but I also kinda freaked when I saw it the first time and just last night was considering a vet appointment because I saw it again (It has been more than a week since I noticed it last) You saved me some stress and probably a pretty costly vet appointment! Thanks. :)

I'm glad it's not the "you're next buddy" look!!! Lol!!

Keep in mind, dogs have a bone in their penis. Many animals do. In fact, humans and only a few other animals are boneless there. LOL

Mastiffs are big dogs. When they sit a certain way, it is only natural for their position to stick that bone out. Dozer has ruined many a picture I am trying to take just sitting still because his red rocket wants to be in the picture too.

And....maybe TMI...but my little dog is obsessed with helping Dozer keep it clean :X

I know, you didn't NEED to know that, but I thought I would throw that in there. LOL.

Dozer is always humping my lab when he gets excited too. Just hightened excitement will set him off to do this.

Oak Hill Farm, I have two geldings and the thing I hate worst then anything is sheath cleaning! Doesn't have to be done often. I usually pay a vet or vet tech to make a farm call because I don't want anything that large or scary pointed in my direction! LOL

Thanks bubba&bella for starting this thread. Ottis our 10month old BM, has always left it hanging out when sitting on his butt, and also loves to hump our 3 year old Rottie bitch. He is the first male dog of ours to do this and I'm relieved to see this is so common. Ottis has improved a little with his humpy of Ruby, not helped by the fact that she lets him hump her ribs, back end or head and never reprimands him for it. Its not easy having a very randy dog. We do try sidetracking him or growling when he shows this dominant behaviour but still can't really have them out together because of it. Ruby is in season at the moment and man is it driving Ottis crazy!!! She is flirting with him like crazy from behind bars, the little tart. The joys of having 2 dogs of the opposite sex who love each other.
