Recovering from Parvo

Our 15 week old puppy came down with Parvo 6 days after his last vaccine. He must have gotten it at the vet. He was very sick for 6 days, but is now on his way to recovery. He's been home since yesterday. Has anyone else's Bullmastiff had Parvo? Any ideas of how to continue to get better? After his antibiotics I am going to do probiotics. Did it affect your dogs growth? We are hoping to show him. We are thankful he made it :) thanks!

Whew! So glad he's on the mend.

No help on recovery, though. Our last pup was the only one of his litter to not die of parvo - we pulled him out of the foster home just in time, apparently. :(

I don't have a bullmastiff, but my pup had parvo and my breeder did not tell us until we showed up to pick him up. I believe he was still recovering from parvo at 4 months old as he had black tarry poop ( I didn't know what it was) and his back end smelled like fish guts all the time. I asked the breeder what was wrong and she said it's just the blood from the raw meat he was eating (yeah right, what a damn liar). Anyways it took him a couple of months before his gut stabilized. He had his fair share of runny poos. He's 3 yrs old now and for the most part - strong and healthy - he's a bit mentally weird but whether that was because of parvo or not - I will never know.

Thanks. He's still throwing up a little, so I'm taking him back in tonight. I wish I could get him back on regular kibble. He needs to gain his weight back.

One of my Rotties was a Parvovirus puppy,he had a sensitive stomach the rest of his life, especially with medication, you may need to be cautious with any Nsad's should he ever need them

My pup didn't have throw ups when I got him. He had parvo at like idk 8 or 10 weeks. My dog couldn't eat kibble for a long time. Raw was barely okay for him, but other than the diarrhea and the worms and the strange poo - he didn't show any other signs. I never took him to the vet for any treatment when I got him because the breeder didn't tell me anything was wrong - so we went with it and he recovered on his own.

My pup didn't have parvo - just his siblings. We lucked out.

I think your choice to add in probiotics is a good one - that should help get him back on his feet, from a gut perspective. You might ask the vet if it's ok to start those now. If you space them away from the antibiotics, you should be able to keep the good bugs populated, even as the bad ones are getting eradicated.
