I couldn't find the thread we had before for recipes (Ok, I didn't look to hard, I'm lazy today, sorry).

One of my favorite cookie recipes EVER. Reletively simple but it does take some time (you have to refridgerate the cookie dough for an hour at least). I found it online a while back but forgot to save the link.

Soft Molasses Cookies

3/4 cup shortening
1 cup packed brown sugar
1 large egg
1/2 cup molasses
2 1/2 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 teaspoon salt
2 teaspoons baking soda
1 teaspoon ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ground ginger
1 teaspoon allspice
1 teaspoon nutmeg

Directions: Cream together shortening and brown sugar. Stir in egg and molasses and mix well. Fold in dry ingredients and stir. Cover and chill till firm (1-2 hours). Preheat oven to 350°. Roll dough into small balls and roll in white sugar. Place on lightly greased cookie sheet. Bake at 350° for 9-10 minutes. Leave on sheet one minute until set.

I love them. My dad made something similer when I was a kid, but my dad doesn't DO recipes (arg!) so not THAT long ago I went digging and found this one, and its awefully close to what my dad used to make. My husband had never had them before but has since announced them to be horribly addicting. The recipe does make a bunch, but they freeze well lol.

My project for the day, since I can't do much in a large portion of my yard today, and my peppermint plant is taking over its container, is Mint Simple Syrup for sweetening iced tea and the like.

1 cup approx mint leaves
2cups sugar
2cups water

Add everything to a sauce pan and simmer and stir till the sugar is disolved. Allow to cool, strain, and chill in the fridge till you're ready to use.

Self Rising Garlic Sticks (stolen from King Arthur Flour's page)

  • 1/2 cup (8 tablespoons) butter
  • 2 to 4 medium-large cloves garlic, peeled and minced or mashed; to taste
  • 2 1/4 cups King Arthur Unbleached Self-Rising Flour
  • 2/3 cup milk

1) Preheat your oven to 450°F. As the oven is preheating, place the 8 tablespoons butter in a 9" x 13" pan, and put the pan in the oven to melt the butter. When the butter is melted, remove the pan, and sprinkle in the minced garlic, stirring gently to distribute.
2) Stir together the flour and milk to make a soft dough. Gather the dough into a ball, and gently fold it over three or four times.
3) Place the dough on a well-floured surface, and roll/pat it into a 10" x 8" rectangle; it'll be fairly thin.
4) Cut the dough in half crosswise, into two 8" x 5" rectangles. Cut each rectangle into 16 sticks, about 5" x 1/2" each.
5) Lay the sticks close together in the pan, turning them to coat with the butter; you'll need to snug them right up against one another.
6) Bake the sticks for 15 to 20 minutes, until they're a light golden brown. Remove them from the oven, and as soon as you can handle them, gently pull them apart and place on a plate or in a basket. Serve warm.
Yield: about 32 sticks.

(to substitute regular flour for the self rising, use 2.25cups of regular all purpose flour, add 3 tsps of baking powder, and 3/4tsp of salt)

Made these for the first time today and OMG YUM!! I didn't shape them as breadsticks, they ended up like kinda mushed biscuits, but they're AWESOME anyway.

Quick and easy Cinnamon Rolls on Biscuit dough:

[h=3]Ingredients:[/h] For the Biscuits:
2 cups all-purpose flour
2 teaspoons granulated sugar
2 teaspoons baking powder
½ teaspoon salt
1¼ cups heavy cream
For the Filling:
1 tablespoon unsalted butter, melted
2 tablespoons dark brown sugar
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
For the Icing:
½ cup powdered sugar
1 tablespoon whole milk

[h=3]Directions:[/h] 1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F. Place the oven rack in the upper third of the oven.
2. In a medium bowl, whisk together the flour, sugar, baking powder and salt. Add the cream and stir with a wooden spoon until a rough dough comes together. Remove the dough from the bowl and place on a lightly-floured surface. Knead the dough for about 30 seconds, or until smooth. If the dough seems dry, add more cream 1 tablespoon at a time.
3. Roll the dough into a 9x12-inch rectangle. Brush the dough with the melted butter. Stir together the brown sugar and cinnamon in a small bowl, then sprinkle evenly over the surface of the dough. Starting at one of the long sides, roll the dough into a cylinder. Cut the cylinder into 8 equal pieces. Press down on one side of each piece to flatten slightly, then transfer to a pie plate. Repeat with all the pieces.
4. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes, or until the biscuits are golden brown. Remove from the oven and transfer to a wire rack to cool slightly. Whisk together the powdered sugar and milk and drizzle the icing over the biscuits. Serve warm or at room temperature. Store leftovers in an airtight container at room temperature.

Made these last week. They're awesome. Though I used store bought frosting instead of making icing. A bit dryer than ideal, but thats the biscuit dough. They held up well to being stored overnight too.

I'm sorry guys and gals, you're gonna need to step this up. Every place I get my recipes from has pictures. You know we love pictures here, don't be shy with the food pics either! :)
I'm a bacon aficionado, and I like to make some different things with it. I'll share my own "recipes" (which I stole online), and will share my outcome as well. For better or worse, till death do us part, bacon.
