My wife just happened to give Lincoln a large empty water bottle and he LOVES it. Knocks it around and chases it.

I also picked up some small frozen femor bone pieces from the pet store and gave him one today. He loved it. I'll probably get him the frozen soup bones from the grocery store when he gets bigger and can handle the bigger bones.

For all you folks who have dogs that love the antlers, are they the whole round antler or are they the ones that are cut in half so you can see the "marrow" of the antler? I have the full round one and none of my dogs give it the time of day.

I've only ever given the half ones. I've been offered a couple sets my FIL found, they're rounds and I won't cut them if I do take them (except to take off the points).

Apparently all bully sticks are not created equal.

The first bullystick I got Lincoln was from the high end pet store here in town and it was a brand called Bravo. It was probably 10-12 inches long and 1-2 inches thick and was listed as no hormone used and all that good stuff. Really sturdy thing and I didn't notice any weird smell from it at all. However, it was something crazy like $12.95.

Then I went to a Pet Food Express (like a Petsmart if you're unfamiliar) and realized they had bully sticks too. I got two straight 12 inch ones and two 8 inch braided ones for $25. The brand is Red Barn Naturals. I didn't realize it when I bought them but if I stick one up to my nose, they smell absolutely disgusting. That disgusting smell is amplified many times when your puppy is gnawing one right next to you and the bully stick gets wet. Holy crap, it smells god awful.

I'm going to do a little research on the difference between the Bravo and Red Barn Natural bully sticks, but if anyone knows why one would smell so much worse than the other, please chime in. He's only a third of the way done with the first one. Blahhhhhh....:(

Can't give cow or horse hoofs, i have horses and don't want him to make any sort of connection :) I do allow Cruiser to chew on flavored rawhide, but take it away after it gets soggy and I don't allow him to swallow it. I get big beef bones from a local farm that sells fresh meat. They smoke the bones and sell them for pets. Huge rib bones. He loves them!

Ours are big elk antlers that are cut so we can see the marrow. Topaz won't leave a room without it right now. LOVES it
