Hello everyone ,

Just a quick intro ..... My gf and I found this site and it will be great helping us with any question or concerns we have with our new puppy. I dont have any pictures, the camera is out of commision at the moment haha

Shes a 8 week old Brindle English mastiff. She is one of 14 in a litter... She looks EXACTLY like her mother, who is one of the best looking mastiffs I have seen !

I posted a question in the health section, but Im not getting much response.
We bought the pup knowing she wasnt 100% healthy.... she has an " ENLARGED RETINA " Her Left eye is about the size of a grape ? I guess that would be the best description...
Can anyone fill me in on the treatment, risks, etc..... I want to get this taken care of ASAP .... I have searched the term englarged retina and havent come up with anything ???

Any help would be great and I look forward to using this website and the great dog owners here in the future

Thanks !

Not sure where you live but I would find an eye specialist and have them look at it asap to avoid any issues. Congrats on your pup.

Welcome to the board. I haven't heard of the condition before so I can't be of much help but would seek out the eye specialist like Mia said to see what they have to say.

I guess I'm a little confused as to what you're seeing ... the retina is the internal lining of the eyeball. It's not visible from the outside (barring trauma, of course), so when you say "enlarged retina" I have to wonder what you're basing it on. Do you mean the entire eyeBALL is swollen up huge or that there's a protrusion, or what? Is it possible she has cherry eye? It's fairly common in mastiffs, and appears as a red swelling in the corner of the eye where the tear ducts are. They can definitely be large. Do you have a picture of the eye that might help us out?

The whole eye itself is swollen..... She has one normal eye, and then other is like 3-4 times the size !

Do you have photos of the eye? It could be a number of things such as glaucoma, retinal cyst, or simply a scratch on the eye. It is really hard to say without seeing the eye to understand what you mean. I would strongly recommend finding an eye specialist and taking her in. Even if it is nothing, you don't want to take the risk of it being something serious.

That was taken this afternoon !

Again, it doesnt seem to be bothering her. I have made an apointment for tomorrow morning @ the eye specialist in Strathroy, ON .

Your in strathroy. There is an amazing eye specialist near Poplar Hill. I took my lab to him for eye clearances. I will have to see if I have his contact information handy for you. I am sure that the one in Strathroy is good too but I know breeders who will drive two to three hours just for the eye specialist in Poplar Hill. (Near coldstream)

I would definitely take her in though.

I went to Dr. Quinn. He is an eye specialist. Excellent vet and he deals primarily with eye problems. I would strongly recommend you call him. He is in Denfield. If you private message me, I have his number. Just had to go look up Petey's past eye clearances.
