Puppy- severe infection

That's what I was thinking but I don't really know. it figures they don't want to lose the extra money for charging extra to give the vaccines over doing it yourself.

The vet would lose the money from not giving the vaccination not the drug maker. As Ruth said you are going to get the same quality as the vets have. Breeders routinely give their own puppy shots.

just wondering how your baby is today?fingers crossed
Thanks for asking He is doing better, the puking has stopped, but he still has dherea. The doctor wants to keep him for another day; they have him on antibiotics and I.V.
When i went to see him last night he was a lot more energetic and was hugging the cage, trying to get as close to me as possible, the whole time. It was a relief to see him doing better, but until he comes home and they give him the clear my mind won't be at rest. In the mean time I'm still waiting for the blood work to come back

wonder if dogs are susceptible to e-coli or other food bourne bacteria that could cause food poisoning?

Also wonder if your dog may have been around any live fish to contract the parasite that is responsible for "salmon poisoning"??

As a general rule no (they don't recall dog food for such because dogs get sick, cause very very few do, but because the humans handling the dog food get sick), however every now and then a really bad strain will cause problems.

I feel so sorry for your baby. My girl is around the same age. You may ask them to test for Salmonella if the tests don't show anything. Some pups can be sensitive to the raw diet. Just a thaught. Parvo definately smells like pennies. zebraworks is right. There are some new strains of Parvo that are resistant to the vaccine. I hope your baby is better soon.

Thanks for saying something Gypsy!!! I did a little google search and there is in fact a newer strains of what they call 2C. Although from what I read there is no vaccination specific to it (they say that testing shows current 2b vaccinations also prevented contracting the 2c in trial tests).

My pup had 2 early boosters (fort dodge) from breeder and then I gave Spectra-7 vaccinations at about 10 weeks (2b parvovirus). I think I will just get another vaccination along with first rabies shot at 4mo. from vet.

You may want to do some research on vaccinations. Over vaccinating can be as bad or worse than under vaccinating.

Tojvan, I hope all is well with you and your puppy. There are a lot of people pulling for both of you.

Wait, your pup had THREE shots by the time he was 10 weeks??

You REALLY need to look up what the potential side affects of over vaccination are. BEFORE you give that pup another shot. And if you're STILL concerned about whether he's got antibodies please consider titering before giving yet ANOTHER shot. The ones he got were all given young enough its possible he does need another one, but you REALLY need to space them out WAY further AND consider the potential side effects before doing so.

Your right over vaccination can really screw a puppy's immune system over, when it comes to vaccine i always strive for less. The only vaccine that i continue getting in the long run is rabies and that's it.

I brought the puppy home yesterday he was in a really rough shape, constant peeing from the I.V and needing to poo but nothing would come out except gas. He wasn't able to sit either, his entire back end was sore and his one side has a bump on it its really bruised when ever i touch it even a little he cringes. I'm guessing its either from siting on one side for too long or the doctor or the helper pressed too hard since he wouldn't let them touch him and was trying to bite everything in site.
He's doing better today the bruise is still there, but he can sit down and is more coordinated which he wasn't able to even do for a few seconds before, the puking is gone and the stool is still on the soft side but it'll get better in a few days. What I am worried about is his rear end i hope there was no long term damage. I'm still not ruling out the fact that he might have been abused by the staff, but what do you guys think can sitting around for too long and constant diarrhea bruise the rear end to the point that he can't sit or walk properly and isn't able to lift his leg properly either.
