Great post we just got our first purebred EM at 7weeks old, I too was looking at the size of his paws and thinking to myself this dog is going to be huge, He is now almost 9 weeks old and more then doubled in size so far a great pup house trained gets along with the other pets great and very loving. We have a hundred pound Golden Retreiver and Gus the EM paws are almost has big as his will be intersting to see how big this dog is going to get!

As you can see from my profile/avatar pic I have done the same thing. My reason was because I kept telling my friends at work how big Loki's paws were and for some reason I just really didn't think they understood really how big they were. That was the reason for my 1st paw to hand pick, honestly now I think these are just special pics to me. I think it represents the closeness my husband and I have with him, I know probably a little crazy!

Love that you did this & WOW big paws........ I loved when I was woken up by Max's big paw at 4 am, right across eyes & bridge of nose, like being shot out of a cannon LOL.... & the bruises on my arm from Midas whacking me to scratch his chest...... You have to be tough to own one of these dogs..... They don't know how strong they are.... I love every bruise, scratch & when my back was screaming from lifting them in out or up down when they were growing..... :D

He is all grown up!!! It is hard to believe that I have only been a part of this forum since April of last year and so many of these pups were just babies and now they are so big.......

Oh how much i ***LOVE*** this thread!!!

Big paws rule!!!

But I have a paw obsession to begin with, & it is never fully satiated. This thread helps though!!!
It also extends to cats.

1st pic I ever took of Tessa was her paw in my hand on the way home from the animal rescue & sent it to everyone.

1st pic is 11.5 weeks her paw in my hand.

Her paws have not grown much, they got only slightly bigger--but she has, she mostly is growing into them.

Um--your pooch appears to have no end in sight, & now they are hands not paws lol!!!!

Sort of. To me Kryten's feet still seem a little large for his body but he is also a very lean 175 lbs at 22 months, so he still has a lot of filling out to do. The other 'problem' I have with judging foot size to dog size is my other gut has small feet for his adult size. I actually had someone ask this winter when I got a third dog because the prints in the snow were too small for the two dogs I have.

Nicolo is 10 weeks today do you think his are big? His mom was 150lbs his dad was 160-180lbs. We saw both and I have to say his father was HUGE. He was the second biggest in the litter. He was almost double the other pups size. What do you think?

I can't really say. I never kept track of Kryten's hind feet and there is nothing to compare Nicolo's front foot to in the picture. Remember his feet are still growing. Your best bet for a size estimate on adult size is using his parents. Chances are he will be close to his dad's size after a few years go by. Kryten's parents were 190lbs (2 years) and 220lbs (3 years) so both were actually still growing. Kryten is charting to be just over 220 when he is 3 so it really looks like he will match his dad at some point (I was given an estimate of 240 by his breeder when I choose him. She wanted to make sure that I knew what I was getting myself in for in terms of food bills. Lol.)

Lol ok. What r good thing to compair to? Speaking of food what is a feeding amount for.your dog? Do you go by the bag? The Vet said he can eat as much as he wants till 3 months then to 3 meals a day till 6 months then 2 meals a day go by bag.. Right now he eats 1-1.5 cups 3-4 times a day with lots of water through out the day.

I just used my hand as a comparison because I started taking them because my cooworkers refused to believe how large his feet were. That way they could see my hand when they saw the photo. Kryten has always required more than what the bag has suggested but I did use that as a starting point. I based the final amount on how his body looked. If he was starting to look too skinny, I increased the amount by 1/2c for a few days and reassessed. I also took him to the vet and weighed him every week. This did double duty, I was able to monitor how much he was growing and he loves going to the vet because the people there give him love whenever they see him. This turned out to be very important and beneficial given his medical problems. I never free fed him and he got 3 meals a day until he was over a year old. At one point he was eating 8c/day (the actual amount always depends on what food is being fed). I also learned the hard way that if I want to switch brands that I need to ensure that I keep the calorie total the same. To me the most important thing is to keep them slim without making them skinny.

Ok what food did you choose? My other dogs have a chicken allergy so it hard to.find a food with out chicken meal.or chicken fat we are on ROTW wild boar. 3,600 kcal/kg (360 kcal/cup) is this a good calorie for him? It's good for my other dogs my girl has lost some weight which Vet said she needed and my pit is nice and filled out but lean at the same time. He was underweight when I got him and is perfect now. I don't free feed either.. The other 2 are 1.5 years they eat 2 times a day same time each day unless there something happens and we can't be here at that time

Kryten also has a problem with any form of poultry so I understand that struggle. If the food your talking about is the TOTW Southwest Canyon the calcium is a little high. I believe that the upper limit that you want is 1.8% preferably a little lower. The Sierra Mountain formula would be a better choice. For most of Kryten's first year he was fed Petcurian's Go! Shine and sensitivity Salmon formula. I know a lot of people feed Earthborn Hollistics but until recently it was availible here so I'm not sure which flavors fit. If you do a search under nutrition there will be a lot of information on which foods are good. Check out the posts by Smart_Family she is the food_guru (She hasn't been overly active recently, just had a baby, but her old posts will give a lot of information).

We have use that until the store we get it from couldnnj't keep it in stock. we don't do any fish the bull dog mix we have don't tolerate it well. We have also used merrick but this is really the best food we have use for them.. Yes I'm sorry didn't see the R. How do you know the calcium is high? My Vet has never said anything about the calcium or what they needed. Love these boards learn new stuff everyday.

TOTW website lists it at 1.9% calcium. Most vets don't have much education into what is a good food, for any dog let alone a giant puppy. Just check out what they sell on dogfoodanalysis.com. It's not super high so if that is the best food out of what is available I wouldn't be worried. Now if he turns out like Kryten and eats way over the recommended amount he could end up getting too much. Too much can = accelerated growth.
