Paw Chewing

For some reason my Dogue, Lu lu Belle, constantly chews on her paws. I have examined them to no avail. I don't see anything stuck in there like a splinter or a cut of any kind etc. Does anyone else have this issue? The skin is red from her chewing and licking, but it isn't broken or anything. She doesn't limp as if it hurts. She doesn't seem to be focusing on her claws either. She licks where her pads are and in between and appears to chew on her toes. I have never seen a dog do this. Thank you for any advice.

Sounds like she is allergic to either her food or an environmental allergen- chewing, licking of paws is a classic sign.

My dog did the same thing when he was younger. He had a weak immune system and had a problem with yeast. He was on nupro supplement and raw fed. The problem went away once we limited treats and stopped the nupro. 50/50 water/vinegar foot soak 2x a day helps.

Hector, did you use white vinegar, or apple cider vinegar ? Our little one is a yeastie beastie boy.

Examine the paw Look for signs of yeast. Benadryl at night to help with the itch. could be seasonal or food related. Typically foods high in starch with patatoe or grain will cause allergy. fish based protein is much easier for the majority of bordeaux in my experience.

Is this something new? It could be a grass allergy. Does she spend a lot of time outside recently? If so a good wipe down of the paws will help. If its a yeast type allergy it will also show up in the ears with a very distinct smell. How are the ears?
