Not dog related, exercising with activity trackers - question for fit bit users

Are any of you fit bit users as part of your exercise routine/tracking? I currently have a fit bit charge that is falling to pieces so I'm looking to upgrade to either the HR or the surge.

Do any of you have the surge? Is it worth the extra price for the extra features?

I used to have a fitbit but it was way to bulky for me when I slept and I always ended up awake with it off. (I have insomnia so tracking my sleep is imperative to me) I have the Misfit Shine and absolutely love it. There are lots of ways to wear it and it is so thin. I also like that it uses an external battery and doesn't require charging.

I went with the Microsoft band. It's the only one I have used, but I absolutely love it. It was quite uncomfortable at first, but after a few days I forogt about it. I love the screen on it and the notifications.

One of my favorite things about the fitbit is the screen. I did try a misfit at one point but y ou had to pull up the ap to check to see your steps and other stuff. I just found that part inconvenient and I ended up not using it much. With the screen I am obsessive about checking on it. I also love that there is caller ID on it. Helps me to avoid my dad's phone calls. :p

It always feels like a little game with me trying to meet my step or calorie goal. The band shows your estimated calories burned on the screen (which I learned my elliptical was grossly over estimating the calories I was burning) and it becomes a challenge to burn off my goal.

Iymala - I am exactly the same with my fitbit! but I just looked up your microsoft band and that thing looks pretty cool! Does it real tell the temperature and body temperature and stuff? That is so cool.

I dont think it does body temp, if it does....I don't know how to access it. It does have a uv sensor that tells you how many minutes before you start to turn into a lobsta and if you should be using sun screen. It has built in gps and the app lets you choose your work out and the wristband tells you what to do....I.e. do sit ups for 20s...then it will vibrate to let you know to switch and do whatever it tells you next.

I have the Fitbit One and keep it in my pocket. It has a wrist band for tracking sleep, but I don't do that very often.
I don't like to type with a watch on, so not sure if a wrist-based tracker would work for me - as I'm at the PC typing most all days... If I did upgrade, I'd probably get the Fitbit HR. I got those for my parents, and so far, they're still wearing them (3 months later). My husband has the Fitbit surge, and likes it, too.

That microsoft band does sound intriguing, though...

I can tell you it is horrible to type with. I normally end up taking it off if I'm typing a lot.

Well my Fitbit Charge officially died last night. The band finally snapped all the way through. :-(
I was hoping it would last another week at least. I feel so naked without my tracker on and I feel less motivated. I found myself saying to Sean "What's the point of even walking if my steps don't count!" lol

So count the number of steps you take, that will give you physical and mental exercise, then measure your stride, more mental exercise and then multiply the number of steps taken times your stride, convert that into feet by dividing the inches by 12 and you then divide the feet by 5280 which will give you the miles you walked. Don't use a calculator do the math with a paper and pencil and use your brain power, more mental exercise. Then you can measure your pulse, numbers of heart beats per minute and calculate what your heart rate is over your stroll even more mental exercise, but be aware that if you are not good at math then your pulse rate will go up as you become angry or frustrated because you have forgotten your junior high math skills.
Or just buy another fit bit :)

Haha but then I would have no energy left to tire out Diesel! ;-) Not to mention when I exercise at the gym I typically read a book and listen to music at the same time.... I'm all for multitasking but I am not sure if I am capable of reading, listening to music, working out and doing minor math and counting in my head all at the same time... Would be pretty impressive if I could though.

Actually I have a new one in the mail. I contacted them and my old one is still covered under warranty so they are sending the replacement. Hopefully this one fares better... :p

QY10 - I love mine! But they are addictive and Sean says it has turned me into an insane person. Lol
Silly him as if I wasn't already insane :p

I could swear I read an article somewhere about multitasking is actually bad for your health. I think it was lifehack daily or something like that. I didn't even know shit like this existed til a read this thread. I'm a real health nut. lol (not)

I have a fitbit flex, no bells or whistles on mine, but I do love it and will upgrade it at some point, the wristband is about to break, but I'll get a new one to tide me over until I've researched which one to upgrade to. One of the things that I really love about it is that it syncs with Myfitnesspal which is where I track my calories so I don't have to enter my activity in that app. I also just bought a treadmill so it's been fun to see just how many steps I can go in a day.
