Hang in there he has been thru a lot in his short life. I believe it can take up to a year for a rescued dog to become comfortable in the new home. He has only been with you a few short weeks now and honestly he sounds like he is getting better from what you have said. Just take it slow with him tons of positive reinforcement and he will come around. As for the vacuum my EM tries to eat it everytime I turn it on she barks and bites the crap out of it. lol

We have a ton of people on here that are foster homes for mastiffs and a lot have adopted, maybe you should start a new thread in training and behavior for tips on how to help ease his anxiety, and when would be a good time to start working on that. Considering he is a rescue I am not sure when you should start trying to work on his issues. Best of luck please keep us updated.

Well we finally got his previous vet records and it seems like, just from them. The poor guy has been through a lot. From not being properly vaccinated, overfed, etc etc. It broke my heart that he wasn't taken to the vet for things that he should have been seen seen for and not just called to ask about something.

But yea... like you said. We are taking it slow. Day by day. He'll get to where I believe he can be ( and back in shape! ).

:)

Your boy is very handsome! It's heartbreaking when you find out that your pup has gone through. I feel your pain. He's now with a loving, caring home. Thank you!

BTW, what is the pup's name?

His name is Cub. I guess I forgot to put that in there haha. Sorry!
We've been having our 3 year old help "train" him and I swear sometimes he listens better to him than my husband and I haha. Its cute.

He's a very handsome boy. Welcome to the forum. My EM adores rope toys & quite frankly they do not last with her teeth. She can have them shredded in minutes it seems. One day I found a rope ball, I think at Walmart, & she has yet to completely shred the thing. It's decent sized, maybe the size of a softball? She has pulled some of it apart, but for the most part it's still intact. It's her go to toy when I come home & she gets so excited she frantically searches the house for it so that she can body slam me with the toy in her mouth. I will tell you I had a XL black kong for her that was supposed to be for heavy chewers & it took about 6 months but she totally destroyed it. Worth the money yes, but if Cub is a heavy chewer than I would just keep an eye on it as you don't want him ingesting any of the plastic pieces. With that being said does he like treats? There are plenty of "busy" toys you can look at that require the dog to nudge, roll, etc & a treat pops out. Maybe that will keep his interest?

I have no suggestions for the nibbling other than redirecting & maybe not playing into his excitement? What I mean is, when he gets super excited do you baby talk to him? I'm guilty of doing this but maybe your excitement feeds into his & that's why he nibbles. As far as the noises & socialization, he will need time to adjust completely to your home, kids & the noises that happen around your house. He seems like a sweetheart so I'm sure he'll get used to it in no time. Good luck with him :)
