New Fila puppy

I didnt do a lot of reasearch before purchasing my puppy, I fell in love with him as soon as I saw him and new that was the puppy for me, I have reasearched the breed now and have found that I bought an awesome breed of dog. He is already at twelve weeks sitting, laying down, eyes on me, take treat gentle, and walking on a leash without pulling, he follows me everywhere and sleeps at my feet no matter what I am doing and I am convinced he would shower with me if he could, he also has gotten on instantly with my two pitbulls and they all sleep together in my room he plays with them and they love him which surprised me since pitts are not usually other dog friendly and I thougt I would have to gradually work him in, but he has just made them love him. I am excited to own a Fila and am working on not being a docile owner so that he will have good manners with other people and when we are out, so far he is great at the parks and dog parks am hoping he will keep this demeanor as he grows.DSCN7052.jpg

A proper Fila will not keep that demeanor. Please keep reading and learning about your puppy. Most Fila puppies will allow strangers to be around and even play with and allow them to pet them. Anywhere between 3 mos. to 18 months ojeriza will kick in with a correctly bred Fila and it will not be a dog that will tolerate strangers and that is anybody that does not live in your house. So Uncle Bob that comes over every once in a while will be considered a threat just like any strangers walking down the street.

Some breeding lines have much sharper temperaments than others. Even milder temp lines can be a handful. Did you get your pup from a breeder? Please, always be aware that you own a Fila. More than likely you are going to wake up one morning and you will have a different dog than that sweet little puppy that loved everyone.

I own 2 Filas and they are the love and joy of my life. They are super gentle with me and my partner and I never fear that they would hurt either one of us but we take extraordinary precautions to keep them and the outside world safe.

Congratulations he is a beauty and he will steal your heart. They are excellent dogs as long as you understand what you have.

BTW, it doesn't matter how much socializing you do if he has a hard temp he will always hate strangers. It is just hard wired into them.

Welcome and congrats on your new puppy -- I love that expression! I hope in your research you've come across discussions of true 'Fila temperament' and know what to expect as your puppy matures.

I agree with the others as to encourage you to keep researching the breed. While I don't personally know enough about Filas to give anyone advice on the breed. From what I learned you do have to be very aware of the temperament of the breed that you have. Good luck & welcome to the forum

AB hit it on the head. Kone is very well socialized. She does really well around strangers. By that I mean if they stay over there she's happy over here. Congrates and learn all you can and be very aware
