I’m sure he’s a mastiff (& we knew that when we adopted him). I think he looks like a Corso but what do you all (that actually own a Corso) think? Someone dumped a litter of these puppies behind the animal shelter in the middle of the FREEZING night. My heart broke, who could do that?
We had him fixed & we just brought him home Tuesday evening. He’s a sweet baby. I don’t even know how old he is. I’m sure he should still be nursing. He’s 7.2 pounds & as clumsy as it gets. He sleeps a lot & from what I’ve read that’s normal. He has a vet appointment tomorrow & I’m hoping he’ll be able to help me with what breed he might be or mixed with. I’ve been reading anything I can get my hands on regarding mastiffs. I grew up with rotts, so I’m not foreign to large breeds.
ALSO on his back paws he has an extra dewclaw.... Any info would help.

Congrats on the new addition! What a sweetie. Aw guessing breeds is fun but really pretty impossible to say for sure. I ended up doing a Wisdom Panel genetics test on my Diesel because I was curious about his exact mix. I actually really loved the test and seeing the results. There was so much info and we had one surprise with him in finding out he had boxer in his mix (we already knew the DDB for sure and suspected staffordshire).

I also grew up with a rottie. She was a great dog but very very 1 person (or 2 person in our case - me and my dad only). She pretty much disliked all people except my dad and me and wanted nothing to do with them. When he remarried she really despised his wife and new stepdaughter (now exwife). Turned out she was a pretty good judge of character. (kidding... kind of).

But honestly as far as breed guessing if I had looked at Diesel without knowing one of his parents was a purebred DDB I would never have guessed DDB. I may have guessed Corso (and would have been wrong). Depending what the mix is the obvious traits of one breed can be totally obscured. He also doesn't look boxer at all even though he is also part boxer.

Do the test if you're the super curious type like I am and also want an idea of how big your pup will get. And if you do the test please share with the rest of us! Those things are so fun (for me anyways but I guess I'm a little nerdy that way).
