Alpo doesn't even list WHICH meats are in their products, so there's no way to tell whats causing his problems.

The most common allergen is chicken, however there's no way to tell for sure if there's any in what he's currently eating. There probly IS, because chicken is cheap, but you can't be sure.

Assuming you're in the US there's alot to choose from for choices. First thing is to get him off the Alpo and onto something that actually lists all their ingredients instead of a generic "meat and bone meal". That'll give you a something to start with. If you can you probly want to avoid chicken in any form, but you'll need to read the ingredients as its a frequent addition to many foods, often as "chicken fat" or "poultry fat" or the like.

^^^ I absolutely agree with ruthcatrin.

IMO Alpo is crap. Don't feed it to your CC. I certainly wouldn't. Since you've asked for recommendations by brand, you can start by checking out: Taste of the Wild, Nature's Variety, Orijen or EVO. For more info go to dogfoodadvisor.com Also you could try feeding Danzo raw food diet. Furthermore, search through the threads posted on here, there is tons of valuable information that can help you. :)

Hope this helps. Best wishes you and your pup.

Thanks guys but I'm in the Caribbean st lucia actually, and the choices foods available is limited ( Alpo, pedigree, vita pet, beneful, paws, puppy chow, ) I've read that the cane corso is normally allergic to the chicken and grain, and all the foods have some sort of corn. But I will move from the alpo to vita pet or paws . I've started Danzo on a cycle of antibiotic and antihistamine, less bumps now

The antibiotic and antihistimane treats the symptoms not the problem. Can you order food off of chewy.com? I'm not sure about shipping to the Caribbean.

Check out dogfoodadvisor.com for dog food ratings. If you can order from chewy.com, check out Taste of the Wild Grain Free, Acana Regionals, Wellness Core, Earthborn Holisitics Grain Free or Fromm's.

Remember to do a slow transition.

Slow transition to the new food is as follows to prevent diarrhea. If at any time during the transition, the pup has diarrhea return to previous amounts of food per feeding. If you are switching flavors made by the same manufacturer, you should not have to do a slow transition.

Amount per feeding:

Day 1-4 ¾ cup of old food and ¼ cup of new food.

Day 5-9 ½ cup of old food and ½ cup of new food.

Day 10-14 ¾ cup of new food and ¼ cup of old food

Day 15 Start 100% of new food

I actually went to read about buying dog food in your area and... wow, you're right. Not only is cheap dog food a cultural thing there (limiting what you can buy, like you said) but shipping is expensive and will take a really long time. You'd never have a reliable supplier. That's awful. :(

That said, how expensive is meat in your area? I almost think that raw might be your best option.

Since your choices are so limited, I'd try feeding a raw diet; it might be cheaper in the long run and more healthy for the dog if done correctly, from what I understand. I am thinking of going raw with my CC, but need to do more research. :)

Ugh, what a choice of dog foods.

Ok, I'm not familier with Paws or Vita Pet dog foods, and I can't imedietly find them online. While you're at the store stop and read hte ingredients and see if they at least WHAT the meat/meal is instead of a generic "meat meal", cause that at least will give you a better feel for what he may be reacting to.

And yah, it may very well be worth looking a raw or home-made diet if you can find a reliable source.

Great pics of chilling with Danzo! Check out the sub forum, Raw Food Diet, under Health and Nutrition which has a wealth of information about raw diet.

Think I get some chicken wings and maybe some liver or kidney for Danzo but should it be cooked and will it be off a balance enough diet, I'm planing to give a egg twice a week, with some coconut oil or can I use olive oil? Would the egg have to be cooked or raw , Danzo is about 5 months ands weighs about 37lbs, don't know if I got the Raw dieting stuff right, I'm open to recommendation please help me get a balance diet, awaiting suggestions thanks

Hold off on organ meat for at least 2 weeks after starting raw and then slowly introduce. Do not cook the meat. Try chicken legs or chicken leg quarters instead of chicken wings. You can give the egg raw or cooked, I cook Titan's eggs and I also add olive oil to Titan's food.

You feed based on the expected weight. If Danzo is expected to weigh 180 lbs, then you would feed 2-3% of his expected weight in raw meat. We'll go with 3% of 180lbs = 5.5lbs of meat each day. You then give him 80% of meat, 10% of meaty bone and 10% of organ meat. Chicken legs and chicken leg quarters are great to start with because they are about 80% meat and 10% of meaty bone. Again, hold off on organ meat for 2 weeks and then slowly introduce into the diet. Too much organ meat can cause diarrhea.

If he regurgitates the meat, that's normal.

Lots of info on the links you guys provided, yesterday I took a trip up to city checking store by store, the dry feeds available, nothing different with what I had mention before, but I think Danzo is reacting mainly to the corn in the feed, I was able to do a trial feed him some rice which he did not react to, he must have gotten two or three meals and yesterday I feed him some corn and within an hour or so, I could have seen some bumps on the skin not as severe as before but he reacted to the corn. So here goes my reason for concluding corn allergy. So during my in the city for a corn less feed for Danzo I was luck and got a feed with no corn, but with cereal, it's a high energy adult dog feed with a protein content of 30% , I figured I'll give it a try, and giving that my wife has a 2yrs plus terrier puddle (Ruff) who is very energetic , same feed can be for both Danzo and ruff, so I feed Danzo two meal from this new feed and he has not shown any bumps, ruff has gotten one meal from new feed seems to like it less than Danzo but he'll get use to it. There was only two bags left at the store so I be call to ask the store manager to keep the second bag for me, said that they will be getting a constant supply and should be placing an order next week.
