Neapolitan Mastiff Wrinkles

Wow, forgot to check this thread for a while. What I find strange though is that the less "well bred" neos seem to be the ones that are coming out with less wrinkle and look more attractive. Dogs that are ending up in rescue/craigslist/pet stores are actually less wrinkled and less overdone...mind blowing when these dogs look better than ones from "show" breeders. If you do a quick petfinder search for Gentle Ben's Rescue in PA, you'll see what I'm talking about.

"Better looking" is a subjective thing. In truth a "well bred" neo is the hardest thing to achieve in all of dogdom. No wrinkle and less massive dogs are NOT "better" than a heavily wrinkled dog that does not function properly. The first is not a neo period and the other is a heartbreak in the making. The only TRULY well bred neo is the one that has mass, wrinkle, bone and the ability to defend second to no other breed. Such a dog is a rare thing indeed. The lighter boned, less massive, less typey and smaller kind of dog is the poor man's solution to a bigger problem. Of course it is much easier to create a dog that has nothing amazing about it. Of course it is easier to breed a healthy 130 pound dog with no type but... unless we get the whole package WE CANNOT call such a dog a "good neo". A good neo is hands down the most impressive thing in all of dogdom. Unfortunately most people don't have the resources to get and keep one. In fact most people have never even seen what a true neo can be. I have had the very best of this breed for the last 30 plus years and let me say that finding the best has taken me to travel across the earth several times.
