Okay...so I told everyone a while back that Bailey repelled an invader that had jumped our privacy fence, destroying one of my giant Sunflowers. He didn't get far (puppy power!) He got out because he used the waterfall as a ladder to get out...lucky him. A day or so after that, Bailey became ill...diarrhea and she seemed sick...too warm...listless..., that part has passed, but her stools are still not fully formed. I've pulled back on her food, less treats, less all around. I personally cook her meat, so, leaner more high grade meats for now.

Here is the problem, we've been invaded again!!!! Another attempt a couple of days ago, and Bailey was on the job, bringing the heat at 3:30 a.m.! But...the circumstances say to me that they may have tried to poison my pup. I'm with her whenever she's outside, but just one dose of poison and she's sick "like a dog." The people that were hanging around here were chased off yesterday... Cops were here in force today down the street taking a guy into custody with two back-packs full of stuff (break in!) The Board is going to take action to close off our compound further to dis-incline anyone from coming in that doesn't have business here. We are one step away from a gated community. Hell's Bells, this is what the drug epidemic has brought us to. In 10 years we've gone from unlocked doors to hiding behind gates!!!

Our dogs, within our compound, are our first alerts and our saviours. They know...they know when someone is at the gate, at the door, over the fence. Our Dogs Are Heroes!!! This is the face of the FENTANYL CRISIS. Our city Health doctor tells us that the "evil ones" are even cutting marijuana with fentanyl so that they can addict and totally control people and turn them into drug zombies willing to do anything for more drugs. Good thing that real marijuana will be legal soon here. July 1st, 2018, it's legal. Perhaps that will take a bite out of the epidemic...at least stop new adherents.

In the meantime: Our dogs...our fierce and protective mastiffs are on the job...facing down the monsters and protecting us all. I know no better breed. They attack only with an understanding of the threat. My Girl Faces Off Against Threat...Her Face Says It All! YOU SHALL NOT PASS!

Hi Lisa, yes, we are fine. We've been leaving the backyard light on, though I have a solar powered motion activated light that Jon hasn't hooked up yet...Note to Me: Make this happen! Second, we have a motion sensor on the front of the house, so when stuff goes down, we know which side it is happening on. The one in front lights up when people walk by, when cars come in, etc., This week, I have my grand-puppy Huddy with me (half Dogo/AMBully) so...pretty safe here as the dogs have me covered.

I'll vent in a private message. However, I am so grateful for my dog and for my grandpuppy. Hell, I came home today after a short trip to the mall down the street, and the Police Forensic Van is parked across the street, so...another break in. Eventually, it will lead to something much worse.

Oh, I wouldn't mind your pack coming and protecting me...so much fur love, you and Glen are truly blessed! Mastiffs are the Best!

Yes get those motion lights up and running and maybe a camera? Catch the monster trying to harm Bailey and get them locked up. What a great protector you have there. I want to see the people threatening her and you permanently removed. Grr.

Stay safe!!!

That is so horrible that people feel entitled to other peoples stuff and are willing to hurt our precious babies in the process. I am glad that you are both alright. I didn't think London was that big of a city, but it just goes to show that it doesn't matter where you live, these things happen everywhere! Take care and stay safe!!!!

Hi Jakesmum! Well, we are shopping for a camera system. We've looked at ones with PVR's and ones that warn on your cell phone and load the info to a cloud system, but we haven't priced the 24/7 monitored systems.

We haven't had any more problems, but neighbours have, so, we will be looking at mobilizing and perhaps putting in a neighbourhood watch, at least we'd have a better communication system with the police.

If I didn't have Bailey with her deep booming voice keeping the bad guys at bay, I'd be really troubled and I wouldn't sleep well.

As for the city's size...last census was 2014 and we've grown a lot since then...I'm pretty sure we're above 400,000. Not small, but not Toronto.

Do any of you have camera systems, and if so, which, and how would you rate them?

We have nest cam security camera. Its easy to fit, it stores 30 days of data, alerts your phone if intruders are there

I also have a nest camera but we just use it to monitor the kitchen where Diesel hangs out during the day. If we were concerned with break-ins I would probably add a few more cameras including one on the back and front door.

I got my nest primarily to be able to check in on the dogs and cat.

Wish I could tell you everything is wonderful, BUT.... We've had police involvement for the past four days. Everything from a domestic stabbing by an ex to a take down today in our driveway of a break and enter artist. Police officer came in the driveway, stood up on his door sill and spying us, asked us if we'd seen a guy pulling a suitcase or something. I said, well, a while back I'd seen a guy I didn't recognize come through pulling or dragging a large suitcase or bundle. He was having trouble...it looked difficult, but I soon turned back to my conversation with my neighbour and didn't think anything more about it. When I saw him I said to my neighbour, "Where does he belong?" About 20 minutes went by and the police showed up. I said what I saw, and I pointed the way he went, and then suddenly this guy appeared around the front corner and they pounced on him. Another neighbour from up the street, ID'd the guy as the one who had broken into a neighbour's house and they had him in cuffs in a matter of 2 minutes.

My neighbour and I gathered up our dogs and walked them around our compound, we found some of the stuff and called the cops over. Our neighbour up the street thanked us for helping. He hadn't been hit, but the neighbours around him had been broken into and he'd seen this character and called the cops. Why he came in our compound I don't know....fenced on three sides, not easy to get over fences to get out.

Bailey was all grumbly and upset by all these uniformed people and she wasn't sure that Mom was right about it being alright. She really didn't like having her back to them. My friend's Border Collie wanted to charge everyone...like usual. He's always trying to protect Bailey...he's very jealous where she's concerned.

Add this to finding out that there is a suspected drug dealer across the street. A cop car being parked across from the drug dealers house for four hours last night. And three full, multi cop take downs in one week!!! Hells' Bells...I NEED ANOTHER CORSO!!!! Time To Tag Team or Move.

Pricing a 24/7 alarm system now. I'm really bummed out!

Oh my goodness! That is a lot of action for your neighborhood. Maybe it is a good thing you have a cop car staking out the neighborhood watching the suspected drug dealers at least that should help if any more thieves show up. :/

It's insane, Nik. I worked in the courts for years so I'm used to the idea that crime exists, but...in my neighbourhood? Well...I've lived in North London (high end) and I've lived in South London (middle-to-upper class) and now I live in the East End, hardworking middle class area, with odd pockets of subsidized housing, and odd pockets of upper crust housing. It's a mixed up population, but, generally, it has been very peaceful and pleasant. This year has changed everything.

I have to echo my neighbour who has an old pit bull, she says they can take anything, as long as they don't hurt my dog! And that's it...that is the fear. My Dog Means Everything To Me. She Is The Heart of My Heart. And when she is bravely protecting her family and her home, I'm very proud of her. My fear is that criminals would hurt or kill her to get my stuff. I'm insured for the stuff...
...No One Can Replace My Dog.
