  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

my fila needs a boyfriend!

Kona absolutly will never walk that close to people. What I mean is she wont pay you any attention if your across the street or 10-20ft away. Once she is warmed up to the situation she's seems ok with folks out side of leash length. But that close you have to really pay attention to her and them. Very slight movements can really save the drama.

I aint even positive Fila's are supposed to bite like some think they should. If these dogs were breed to hold slaves and intruders, I'm not sure they would just eat someone. I have no doubt they would bite and how much would depend likely on if you buck the jack or lay down. I also dont know how strong konas temp really is. But she's tried way to many times to get folks at very close range with zero fear. This includes the guy she knows better than anyone. She's tried to bite fred so many times it's ridiculus.

So no I would'nt trust a fila to go to parks and walk on the sidewalk. Off to the side in her own area, always leeshed, sure. No petsmart walks. No hanging out at a party. But really , outside of travel, it's fairly easy to avoid these things.

The more I read about Fila's the more I am amazed by how mild Cali's temp is. I have taken her many times to Petsmart and walked through the store with out any issues. One time she did try to nip at the cashier who was going to give her a cookie. She also is a good girl at restaurants with out door patios, I think she is a good girl in those types of situations bc she knows she is going to get food or a new toy if we are at petsmart :) She has also been to many dog parks and ran free off the leash with other people and dogs around. Now that I know more about this breed I am more cautious when I take her anywhere. I think it really depends on the dog and the relationship between the owner and the dog. My dog has never had any real training, I guess I am just very lucky to have such a good girl. I am sort of afraid that she could become more aggressive as she get older, she is only 3... I hope not! At first she was did not like my mom or sister bc she didnt really know them, so once they would turn their back to her she would nip them in the butt! But she instantly liked my Dad, which I find strange bc he is a verybig and tall man and I think would be more intimating than my mom or sister. Now she loves my mom and sis and gets so excited to see them. So I have noticed that she warms up to new people after a few visits, then she gets super excited the next time she see's them. I am curios how she would react in a dangerous situation though. If my bf and I are wrestling around and I say ouch and act like he is hurting me she will come in and start biting him, not really an angry bite but just enough for me to get away, its really funny to watch her. She has by far been the most loving and loyal dog I have ever had. I do agree that these dogs are not for everyone, they need your full attention all the time, not the type of dog that does it's own thing...at least mine isn't, she is a big baby.

I'm going to be honest just from what your telling us I'm sure she's a great pet but her temp is not of breeding quality for a Fila

The butt nipping makes me think that she probably doesn't have a very stable/confidant temperament... I'm under the impression that a dog that bites from behind (unless they're chasing you down) is more fear driven and not very confidant.

Andreac, There is a breeder is CA called De la Luna. You can try looking them up and seeing if you can tour their kennel and see their dogs. I know that she would not stud out her dogs but it is just for information. Who was the breeder of your dog? do you have a pedigree can you post it?

They say girl Filas are sneaky. Kona's tried to get a few from the back or just sneak attack like a cat. But she more realizes her beastly size and really is full on now if at all. In this case though, I would agree with Neobull. The fact she has such a soft temp I would say she's afraid. Like Tiger said she sounds like an awsome dog. But her temp is way soft. In most cases I would say I agree, a dog's what you make it. But in a Fila, you dont make it nice. Ojeriza ia the fila temp.

My parents stayed here for 4 days. Kona had been to their house and camping with them more than a coupe times as well. Soon as they came up the walk I was coming out with Kona. She was doing her level best to get them. Get her calmed and she was fine. Every time my mom or dad came into a room we were in, same thing over. I literally had to leash her constanly in the house, and block off one hallway at night.

Yep, I think the girls bite a lot faster. When I vacuum, Cane will prance in front of it and put on quite a show. Ziva stays back until our little deaf ACD walks towards it(being deaf she doesn't react to it), then Ziva will come full tilt, diving and biting it as hard as she can. then she will herd the little ACD back into another room.

Anglebears do you have a Blue Heeler and Filas? That would be interesting. Blues are very smart dogs like Filas but very different in every other way.
