Not to hijack the thread, but are seizures common in the mastiff breeds? By common, I mean more than average for dogs? I have heard of seizures in dogs, but never knew anyone with a pet having them.

It took some looking to find a couple of sites that said Dogues health problems include seizures. So I think you would need to look for a specific breed to see for sure. Also if you got your dog from a breeder they would have history on the parents. Which is something I will look into in the future.

So. I'm using this post as a journal at this point. So I can keep track. Raja just had a seizure. I looked back and her first seizure was on November 20, second was 22st. Third was on December 20th, and today is January 25th. This is very interesting to me. I got 5 more days then last time. I wonder if that is s good thing since it seems to all happen around the same time. I wish I could talk to someone who studies this in dogs.

Sometimes seizures can pattern themselves. Same thing in humans. Some can have them monthly. Some yearly but she will still either need a medication adjustment or another medication added to her therapy because you want to have her seizure free as this gives her the best chance to grow out of them. Like I said before, she needs to be seizure free in order to grow out of them and the only way is to get her under control with the medication.

Is she still growing and putting on weight? Is so then this would explain why she may be having breakthrough seizures. The more weight she puts on the less effective her medication will be.

No her weight has stayed the same. I updated the vets office today. So I'm sure she will call me Monday to tell me what we need to do. I just wonder if she would have more with out meds. Also worried that it could still be a tumor since she is on meds.

If her seizures were getting worse not better then there would be cause of concern. One thing I can't stress enough to ALL of our patients parents who have epilepsy is that there is no one magic drug to get seizures under control. It's all trial and error and sometimes just pure luck! Sometimes one medication can control seizures, sometimes 2 and some times 3 or more. Sometimes it's a cocktail of more than one. If I were you, I would look to see if you can find a vet who knows more about epilepsy and medication. You do not know how many doctors I see who finally refer their patients to us because they mess up medications. Like I said before, there are certain anticonvulsant medications for certain types of seizures.
When you are recording your dogs seizures. Are you also timing them and noting what body parts her seizures are involving? With each seizure how long were they and which side of her body was more involved? Did your vet give you and type of medication to stop the seizure in case it goes on for longer than 3 minutes?

I do time her. They only last 2 mins. She's always laying on her right side feet moving. However this time she was almost sitting up all the way. This time after she couldn't walk away and pace like normal. That lasts 2 mins as well. She drug herself down the hall her back legs not working at all. She finally got up and walked around. Came to see me checked on everyone in the house. Then started standing on objects. Went outside stood on the grill, came in side stood on the counter and table. Non of this has happened in the past. She was very hot this time. She stayed outside most of the morning laying in the snow. Ill do research here for vets that know more here. Thank you!

They also gave me a liquid form to give in her bum while she's having a seizure. I haven't used it yet because her seizures are short.
