  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

My boy is lame, vet believes it's ACL tear. :(

I just went through the same thing as you did. My dog had the same symptoms a s Mateo. The vet said he had an acrutial ligament tear and needed surgery. I decided to check for lyme disease and the dog he tested positive for it and another tick borne illness. NY is a hotspot for lyme disease. Do the blood test blood test asap. Good Luck.

Legs and these big guys!!! Our 2 year old ~ 190 lb boy had both knees go out 10 months ago. We opted for Conservative Management. Strict rest and leash outside only. Fortunately he has always been weight bearing on both. It's a slow process, but then so is surgery rehab. He's done well until recently, reoccurring injury is so hard to prevent. PT has helped in the past as well as supplement's. Good Luck, there is no easy answer on what to do.

Agree about these big guys and their joints, ugh.

And it is a slow process...but I am patient. Not that it's easy, but it is doable.

Wow. Just wow.

Mateo was on Long Island- lots of ticks there- but that was back in June. It still might be worth a test, though...

Thanks for your story.

How is Mateo doing?

He's holding his own, as they say. We have been doing really short walks, I've added supplements and am using heat and massage (which he likes, a lot.)

Also, I had a holistic vet come and evaluate him and do a session of acupuncture. It's something I'd like to continue, as much as I can afford to; he responded well to it.

It's going to be a slow process.

But then again....now I'm thinking I should get a Lyme disease blood test...

1.)My cousin has a 6 1/2 month old DDB "Bonez" that torn his ACL about 3 weeks ago. The vet out him on tranquilizers and rest no activity. It was said that he may need surgery if he is not better. Well he is now mobile, my concern is his overall health considering his FUTURE size and weight. I know humans that have this type of injury it's pretty much a game changer.
Any advice?

2.) My DDB "Gigi" has been on supplements since about 10 weeks originally because she was a runt. Now she has grown well and is healthy girl! I noticed that she had a slight limp. She didn't seemed to be in pain, so I checked her feet to make sure she had stepped on anything. Well I took her to the vet and he X rayed and she's fine. He gave a different supplement with calcium & anti inflammatory for 10 days. It think she hurt herself leaping like a leap frog. I discourage it, but she is really excited to see me when I get home from work.

Any suggestions?

trulytheone--- I'm just in the beginning of this journey, but I assume it could be a game-changer; the chances of re-injury is pretty high.

And I'm not sure what to say about your girl...except to watch the calcium, especially when they are growing. Too much and it could cause problems, too...

It can be very slow going. Glad to hear you guys are working through it together!

I have a coworker that went with bio-energetic therapy for her dog when he had a back injury. She said it worked wonderfully and her pup recovered fully. It's something I'm willing to explore.

Acupuncture is something I was interested in as well. Really glad to hear Mateo is responding well to it! How often do you think he'll need it?

I recently ran out of organic turmeric and haven't had time to go to the hippy store for more and I have noticed that Angus' leg has stiffened up a bit.

Turmeric is wonderful--- keep it in stock! :)

And, yes-- I am tend towards the hoistic, so no surgery unless nothing else is helping...it's a learning curve, for sure.

She will be 6 months next week!

She is looking good! Getting big and mastering that cute, but arrogant face I see. :)

So after reading diverdan's post, I decided to get a blood test for Mateo to see if he has any tick-borne disease-- should know the results by Monday.

At least it may be something to rule out...

Did your vet do a drawer test on Mateo's knee?

I suppose he did. He did some serious manipulation on both of his legs, including pulling his knees out and back, as well as very hard pressure and handling in the knee area with his thumbs...

I was just checking in to see how the most handsome Douge in the world was doing. I will be checking in to see how his blood test turns out. I am glad to hear that he is maintaining well. I would love to hear more about how the acupuncture goes...very interesting. I am still keeping the both of you in my thoughts.

Thanks, Kris!

I'll post more about the acupuncture as we go along. :)

Part of me is actually hoping it's Lyme disease, as it CAN be a fairly simple fix, with antibiotics.

Well, we will see...
