Hi guys, I've decided to get a muzzle for Bella. I want to have her comfortable with wearing a muzzle for outings.... vet visits, groomers, walks in the city.
What would you recommend and why.

I've done just a little research and I kinda like this one that still allows her to open her mouth enough for small treats and drinking.

Honestly, Sheila, that's not good enough. Not if you want it to prevent a bite. Muzzles like that can slip off easily, especially when you really need them to work. Muzzles like that give a false sense of security, imo. You need a basket muzzle. They allow for panting and treating, but prevent a bite when properly fitted.

Acclimating very slowly is important. This is how I do it.

Are you having worries still? Are you still dealing with some aggression issues that have you concerned?

Thanks Boxergirl. This is really helpful.
Yes I am. She got away from my husband and ran out to the front of our property and attacked an Irish setter. Poor old girl.... the owner was very good about it said she didn’t believe there was any damage really that it was all noise. So now we had to go back to the vet because she couldn’t put any weight on one of her already injured back leg. So now I’m the only one that’s taking Bella out. She’s great with me.... but I have her leached at all times when she’s out of the house.

So much for buying threw amazon.... I find 1 that is the rounded cage in silicon and of course it only comes in black. Well off to my local pet store to order what I need.
Thank again boxergirl. I hate the idea of having to do this to her.... but I would really hate it if I had to put her down because of her attacking another dog or person.

I think muzzle training is a must for every dog. You never know when it will come in handy. Please make sure that whatever muzzle you buy has that strap that goes up over the top of the head and connects in back. That's what keeps them from getting it off. Be patient and go very, very slowly with training.

I am sorry, Sheila. Ella believes she should be the only dog on the planet, so I get it.

    Thanks Boxergirl.
I do believe I got a good one. o bought a red silicone basket. I did watch that video you were kind enough to supply.... I really appreciate your support. I received it from amazon today. So when we got home after dinner we did the peanut butter thing 3 times then she was done. Tomorrow we’ll do it again and I’ll back it up with most valuable treats when she’s done licking the peanut butter out.... I’m doing it just like the video. I’m going very very slow.... no one else excepted my granddaughter will be allowed to play this game with her.
it’s funny how well Bella listens to Miss Kay, my granddaughter.... She has been helping train Bella every step of the way.
Now my husband is another store.... he refuses to follow direction for training. So he is no longer allowed to take her outside. I can’t trust him, because he just doesn’t or refuses to be trained in how to handle Bella.

I had hoped that by me training Miss Kay that my husband would see the value in practicing with Bella how to handle her. Oh well maybe someday.

Ok so Bella's muzzle training continues..... she's kinda funny with it now....she walks into the back smoking room with me....I have her muzzle here just laying on the ground for her....she checks it for peanut butter....then asks to go out side.....I've also been clipping the neck strap on her but I just have the muzzle part hanging around her neck.....she will stick her nose in it to check for peanut butter ...lol it's funny to watch. Now we're working on her being comfortable with her nose in it for longer periods of time.
It's going pretty good....I'm taking it very very slow....I want her as comfortable wearing her muzzle as she is with her leash before I take her outside wearing it.

Get yourself some squeeze cheese like cheese whiz so you can easily shoot it through the muzzle when she's wearing it. You'll want to have an easy way of reinforcing her with something tasty while it's on. Keep up the good work!
