Mean Neighbor

Sooo....as of this morning, I have become a mean neighbor. About three weeks ago, I left Elvis in the backyard with some feed, water, and his dog house. Three hours later, I came home to find the neighbors greate dane in my yard. She managed to chew the feed bowl into five pieces on top of destroying some equipment that my husband had stored back there. We had already had the issue with them trying to dig under the fence, with Elvis helping on the other side, of course. So, I could not get a leash on her to take her home, when I finally got one on her, she fought it horribly. I am not big enough to lift her over the fence, so I cut the darn thing and put her back through and rewired it together.

To make a long story short, the neighbor had been sending her small children to fill in the holes on their side, did not work. I told her that I was going to put an electric fence up. As cruel as it sounds, I got the fencer designed for cattle because I knew Elvis has a really high pain tolerance. It took one time and Elvis knows to stay away and stay off of the fence. That was a few days ago.

This morning, my neighbors dog, tried to go over the fence and got a really nasty surprise. Then she tried to go under it and got zapped again. This time she hauled butt home. My neighbor witnessed this from her window, knowing that my fence was electrified, did not try to stop her dog, but then got pissed that her dog got zapped. Needless to say, she called screaming and yelling and I very simply told her. I take care of my animals, I ensure that they are leashed trained, up to date on their shots, I buy quality feed and equipment. I will not tolerate the destruction of my property by animals that have free reign. Did I mention that her dog is already limping from being injured in a fight with another neighbors dog, after she had jumped their fence?

Anway, I have lost 1/2lb of butt after that chewing but I got to say ( I know this sounds cruel) but it was funny to watch her dog haul butt, I was watching from my window too.

Her dog gets on everyone's property. Her dog is not mean by any measure, she is just very destructive. I did give fair warning before I put the fence up though. I just did not want an issue that would have another animal hurt on my property or even causing problems where Elvis, as a cc, gets the blame. He is never shown one lick of aggression but there is always that chance that something could happen and I want to avoid that at all costs.

LOL, MM.

OP, mean or not when you get a pet its your responsibility to take care of it. That means keeping it out of harms way. Talking can only go so far, and in most cases it goes in one side and out the other. On top of that this dog has a history of destroying property. I'm sorry but I work too hard for the things on my property replacable while they may be, the point is for an easy fix it should not happen. I feel bad for this girl, again kudos to you. I'd also take pictures if the neighbor wants to take it to the next level.

Works for me I have the wire on the inside and outside. And will be adding a new anti-sledding wire this weekend.

Mike, this is how I envision your back yard - just add razor-wire!

To DD: I actually started this by talking, then I wrote a really nicely worded letter (my husband said I should have been a lawyer) and then I followed it up with the fence.

As to pictures....lol....if this keeps up that's what my yard is going to look like....that will really make my neighbor happy....roflmbo
