Mastiff Store is off the mark.

Why do you sell dog bite sleeves for mastiffs? You should never train a mastiff to attack. In fact I don't know of any trainer that would train a mastiff to attack. Also, why do you sell muzzles for mastiffs? Have you ever owned a mastiff or worked with one? Have you ever heard of the term "Gentile giant." That's what they are. Frankly, I found your website to be counter to the needs of the breed. If you want to sell something to mastiff owners try XXL beds, kennels, elevated water bowls, ect. Your branding of mastiffs as a tough breed is all wrong.

Obviously you dont know much about Mastiff breeds either.... The English Mastiff is one of MANY different breeds of mastiffs. Cane Corso, Presa Canario, Tibetan Mastiff, Neapolitan Mastiff and Dogo Argentino are a few mastiff breeds that are working dogs. Who are usually used in bite training... and there are a few scenarios where a muzzle would be worn whether the dog is gentle or not!

Get a clue before you attack someones post!

My mastiff WILL bite if a person starts yelling at me. Also if someone comes in our front door w/o being invited in. And,,,, he has been socialized very well since we got him when he was a very young puppy. So some EM's don't always fit the bill of "gentle giant". Can I take him in public? Yes. Do I have to sit on him if someone screams at me? YES! As long as no one agresses he's just a watchful guardian over me and my family, if violence does break out however he becomes the enforcer.

COMMON SENSE: You cannot predict ANY animal's actions. Example: My Mastiff broke his toenail and tried to attack the vet caring for him. I had always told everyone that my dog would never hurt anyone. Therefore, use common sense!

You do know that Mastiff's are in the working group don't you? They are natural protectors of their home and people, are they known to bite? No, they pin with their size, but they are more then just lazy couch potato dogs as their rich history (if you care to read it) reflects.
There are people training in sports/bite work with Mastiff's of all sorts out there. Selling working tools is not counter productive of the breeds needs, it is a different side.
If you don't like it then that is your prerogative, but not all Mastiffs fit into the nice little box of gentle giants.

Some would say if you wish to be positive your dog will do it's job as a protector you would certainly use bite sleaves. If you wish to do some Temp Test on a Fila you better hope you have a sleave. And if you the strange vet carring for a Fila you might want to insist on a muzzle. Let alone the many other mastiff breeds that have it in their very soul to protect

Old post I know but I agree with the others, please don't label all mastiffs as "gentle giants" that misconception can result in some serious consequences.

I ordered a muzzle from them today so I socialize Titan. They seem like a reputable company.

I, too, realise this is an old thread. However it caused me to have a look at the website which I have bookmarked. I thought the leads, harnesses and mastiff collars looked beautiful and well crafted. We plan to buy some of these items for our Mastiff when he is closer to his mature size.

@ Oslo: Many people for a variety of reasons use muzzles for their Giant Breeds when training/socialising in environments the dog is unfamiliar with or working on issues. A muzzle can provide confidence and lack of worry for an owner/handler. It can be very difficult to find a well constructed box muzzle.

In terms of sleeves, as others have said, many people do protection/bite work with their Mastiffs as a sport and discipline -- up to the highest level of Schutzhund training. Although the more athletic of the Mastiff breeds may take to it more naturally, EM's have succeeded. In fact I recall seeing a thread on this forum on the subject. Likewise, some people enjoy doing competition pulling (don't know if that's the technical term) with their Mastiffs -- which this site caters to as well. I really liked it.

While I do not own a Mastiff of any variety (English, Tibetan, or otherwise) I do own a male short-haired Saint Bernard of considerable size (aren't they all :p) and have had a difficult time finding places where I could purchase neccesities like collars suitable to his size--something about a nylon collar on
A 200+ pound dog just doesn't seem right (or adaquette). This site was a HUGE help! My dog Vex takes after me in his ability to go through seemingly indestructible items at a break-neck speed, not so much because he tries to, he is simply rougher on his stuff then the average dog (a trait I am sure he picked up from me :/). Up until now I have had little success in finding items that could withstand the wear and tear of an active st Bernard's life. About a year ago I decided to invest in one of these collars for Vex (a very nice, very thick wide-band collar) and I haven't regretted it since. Not only does it look fabulous on him but it's also withstood the test of time!! I regularly take Vex out swimming, hiking, camping, etc. and so far the collar has withstood it all!! I've even recommended the site to some of my friends who own large breeds like Newfoundlands and Pyrenees. I know this site is geared towards mastiff owners but you shouldn't discount it as an option if you own a very large breed and are in need of strong, well made, durable equipment for your dog!
