Manly breeds

Even the intelligence of dogs book is deceiving (I have it), it ranks dogs based on trainability (how many repetitions it take them to learn something new) AND obedience (what percentage of the time the dog obeys a command). You can have a super smart dog that just doesn't give a *@$% about obeying lol. So basically smart, but more independent breeds are going to rank lower than smart people pleasing types.

Completly agree, there are particular cases as you describe, I have a friend who owns a poodle, swear that dog has some sort of mental handicap and in general poodles are #2. Whats more, back in 1989 I had a ChowChow, that dog, was the smartest dog I ever had/seen (Chow Chows are rated just above the afgans I believe), she could do anything including attack, but 2 of my buds (and neighbors) had her sibblings, those two where smart as soup.

Actually, since the method to rate the dogs is explained, that makes it trustful for those particular standards. For anything outside Trainability and Obedience I believe doesnt work.

No offence... As he should be. He should'nt carry the easy box or make you dig a ditch while he drinks sweet tea either. He has to share the load as a man. And a real women should as well.

I agree but if he won't correct my dog while walking her, it stresses me out. It's not cute when a rottweiler is pulling to visit some strange dog and pulling against a prong. I'm sure it gets annoying with me saying "correct her" "don't let her pull on that collar like that" "Correct her" "Let me show you how to use that collar again" "Shes going to hurt herself pulling like that" "Next time I'll let you walk her on a harness so she can pull you without hurting herself" " I'm trying to get her ready to take the CGC Please make her behave!" "Correct her"
She never pulls when I walk her and she knows she can get away with murder with him.

yeah - American Bully - that's the kind of dog my daughter and her bf have and oh such a doll he is. He tries to be all manly with the dog but he's so sucky and does baby talk in his Kiwi accent all the time, my daughter just rolls her eyes. He's about 100 lbs now, here is a photo of Andrew holding Ernie. Ernie loves this.

So glad someone knew what they were actually called. They aren't a recognized breed yet! I know a guy who breeds them and swears by them. He really loves the dogs he breeds and he'll stand by them 100%. I just kind of thought they were well beefed up pits I guess they aren't but that's really what they seem like IMO anyway!

Uhh...have you ever seen a guy driving a newer VW bug or a mazda miatta? Those are about as girly as it gets for cars.

LMBO:lolbangtable: I only laugh because my brother drives a Miatta, and he has a cat, Bahahahaha. My husband and I give him hard time about this ALL the time. The men in my family are not into cars at all, they drive whatever they get a great deal on, period, they could not care less. But it is still hilarious that you mentioned this. I will be sure to show this to him, thank you so much!!! I was also just meaning that while yes there are some really girlie cars as you greatly pointed out, there are not really cars that are just manly. I know women that drive roadsters, trucks, jeeps, muscle cars, etc. I used to drive a truck even.

And I agree that the main reason that people/women would be impressed with a large dog is that don't know how they would handle them. But IMO, I don't really see the difference in small and large dogs. I mean, I guess the giants eat a bit more, hehehe, but I never trip over my EM either. Bathing is a bit easier when you can actually pick up your dog, but I don't have to bend over to pet Mamie either. I think the list started us a great thread, but is a bit off on the ratings. Maybe we should ask all of the women on this forum their top 10 picks and make a real list of what would impress us.

I agree with you. If I saw a man walking a lab or shepherd, I would not even glance. The EM would get my attention. So would a neo, or any mastiff breed. By the way, I have only known 3 folks to own ridgebacks(2 chicks and a family- the mom wanted it) I used to want one til I decided on EM

HAHA! One of my buddies drives a Miatta and I tease him ruthlessly. I swear he got it just to impress his g/f but he won't admit it. I'm sure some people think i have a girlie car, just a little 07' Kia Rio, i call it my Hotwheels car :) haha

To me, the only difference in small and big dogs is how big of a pain in the ass small dogs are over big dogs imo lol. Small dogs have napoleon complexes and people tend to baby them to the point of not having any training whatsoever. I'm struggling with trying to correct the misbehavior in my daughter's 6 lb shorkie and its been a struggle to say the least, damn thing just doesn't respond to anything.

When i see people walking certain dogs i notice i tend to judge, not in a bad way but i kinda feel like i get a peak into who they are to a degree. A lab walker isn't one to push limits, went for the "status quo", i see a pit its either someone who wants to be a tough guy/gal, someone who has no clue what they are doing or someone doing the right thing by handling a wonderful dog but understanding what they are capable of, similar things go for mastiffs.

I like the bigger ones for specific reasons, not to seem tough or anything but i just have never been all that thrilled with smaller ones, too fragile, yippy and frankly...they annoy the hell outta me. I like a big, strong dog that can handle itself. I get weird looks all the time just b/c my dogs combined weigh as much as me and when we walk together i'm sure people are like "Oh holy hell, they're gonna rip his arm off!" hahaha

OOT

Had to google Mazda Miata, doesn't look that girly to me, looks more like a ghetto Boxter or Fairlady wannabe. Maybe is the poor preppy boy car.

Back to dogs. I have a friend, looks like a regular fugly guy, civil engineer, married and all. He owns poodles, back in college he even had 2 poodles in his apartment. We give him hell, real hell. But on his defense I have to admit he takes it like a man.

I can think of many breeds under 50lbs that would be considered manly. A standard Bull Terrier can weigh as little as 40lbs all the way up to 65. These dogs are hardcore, as are English Staffordshire Terriers 30-40lbs.Not that i condone it in any way, but this breed is used almost as much as Pit Bulls in dog fighting. As for Pit Bulls they can weigh anywhere from 35 to 60 lbs. I am not talking about these freakishly big Mastiff Pit mixes that can barely move. LOL
Most Terriers are game as hell, and I include many Jack Russels and Our own Boston Terrier in that. In my opinion, a girly dog is more of a type of dog, rather than size. To me little fluffy dogs are the only-unmanly breeds, but to each his own.

wannadogue- I had completely forgotten about terriers, they are a manly dog, the energy and commitment to keep up with them alone is amazing.

OdeMX, they have remodeled the Miatta and it does look a little better. Mazda-Miata.jpg this is what my brothers looks like. The teasing comes in mainly because it was my dream car when I was 16. LOL

LOL the manley thing made me remember when I got a St. Poodle and groomed her all fancy, colored her pink and put ribbons in her
hair, my husband thought I did such a good job he put her in the car and took her to work and showed them.
When he got home he said "I can't believe I just took a POODLE to town".

LMAO!
I wanna poodle to do that to.
I painted Aurora's nails for the kids at the hospital, they love it when we do that. Right now her nails are hot pink, which look even brighter against her black coat. My hubby however refuses to walk her with out me there when her nails are done :D

It is amazing what they can do with the poodles at the creative grooming compitions, you will love it Cody, then you will have
to get a St Poodle, they really are great dogs, a one of a kind personality.

This truly made me LMAO!! A prius, indeed!! :)
I dont think a dog is more manly but some are certainly more girly. What do they consider a man? If it's a tough guy well half the list is gone. Even if the dogs tough. I dont think bulldogs, labs, or husky's strike me as tough guy. If they figure man means scrotum, well then any dog over 50lbs . Under that your old or have a girly dog. Or barking cat as I call them.

Same with cars. A chick in a 4x4 is cool. A dude in a prius, well it's a dude in a damn prius..... Gay or straight dont matter. Dude, you drive a prius, you better fight MMA or race dirt bikes or something

Trouble is I only have room for one more dog in the house according to my husband, so I have to save that spot for a Corso... Or a Neo if I can convince him...
