Making the switch

Man have I been out of the loop for too long!! Congrats on making the switch! We love it:) and it's so much fun watching them try new things and figuring out their favorites. If she is refusing the fish don't despair, just try it again later. There was a lot Chica refused in the beginning but will eat now. I feed the 80/10/5/5 and have added in veggies in the past. I also add in whole eggs(which was fun to watch them figure out how to eat them) and bone broth. Lots of fun treats like rabbit and chicken feet, trachea and the like. I hope this helps Lillie's acne and yeast issues. Also, and a more experienced raw feeder should pipe in, I've heard raw chicken is sometimes ok for kibble chicken allergic dogs. But please wait for someone else to chime in about this!!

Yes, I have seen were a few raw feeders said their dogs had reactions to the chicken in kibble but that their dogs have no problem with raw chicken.

It's funny to watch her - yesterday she spit out the liver 3 times before she finally at it. I'm kind of surprised though, she's been getting some raw food since she was a puppy, including smelt and she gobbled it all right up.

Yogi on the other hand, is having no problems. In fact, he sat at the door whining and running between me and the door when Lillie left her fish laying there, lol.

Thanks for the raw chicken tip - that would make this a bit easier. I think I'll hold off for a while on trying it, just to see if her face clears up and then if I add it back and there's problems, I'll know that was a culprit for sure.

Emma had problems with chicken in her kibble but feeding raw is no problem. She does, however react to beef!

It won't take long until you are gutting lime a pro. Well as pro as needs be haha.
I remember my first pigeon looked like a murder scene. With in a few birds the knack was there.
I've always had a problem feeding fish so bravo to you if you've managed to get it eaten.

I haven't narrowed it down yet but I think that Justice may have a reaction to grass fed hamburger meat. I was having a hard time believing it. So, I'm glad you posted.

Mine don't like fish either. I have a little more luck with fish heads. Jamie, I would just run a quick knife through the fish, feel around to check for a hook, then feed them. I wouldn't gut them.

Sonny will eat whole and ground fish, Ava gobbles up ground and Chica may chomp on a whole but not eat the whole thing and has yet to touch the ground. I have not fed it in quite a while so she may now.

Well, woke up to what was apparently a night of explosive diarrhea on the part of both dogs... they had beef, liver and duck feet. They get a digestive enzyme/probiotic and fish oil as well. Everything they had yesterday, they've eaten before. Well, except Yogi managed to snag the bag of organs that comes out of a whole chicken, that was unintentional and was going in the trash, so that could be his deal. But maybe I gave them too much? Weird thing though, Lillie had some whole pieces of kibble in there and she hasn't eaten kibble in three days, and I've never seen kibble come out whole before.

Should I fast them today or just cut back a little bit?

It also could have been the probiotics - I missed the part where it said to start with a half dose and build up over 7-10 days. Sheesh.

Guess what my raw supplier suggested? To use a little metal detector to check the fish, then they get whole fish with all the goodies intact. I thought that was near to genius, lol. Not sure I'm gonna run right out and buy one, but it's filed away for future possibilities.

Easy on the organs. I have a dog that has been raw fed for over 5 years and too much organ at one time opens her butt right up. I would be feeding mostly bone in meat for the first week or two. Puppies are the quickest to adjust to raw, the older they are the longer it seems to take.

oh, that could definitely be it then. I did get some whole meat grind that I picked up yesterday that they will be getting for the time being. The complete grind is pork 80/10/10 and I got beef also which is 80/10/10. BUT I also got tripe that I could feed with duck/chicken feet sans any organs for a while. Do you think I should just do the tripe and feet? I didn't buy any bone in meat for them for now. I want to get this down without worrying about percentages and ratios too much as well as try to stick to one thing at a time now that I have my month supply on hand.

My boyfriend woke up to shit smelling house and raw pork grind being cut up in the kitchen, he was like "is this really worth it? it's so gross" He hasn't stumbled across the whole pig head in the freezer yet, hehehehe.

Are you not feeding any bone? I may be confused.
Yeah, chicken and duck feet as the 10% bone with boneless meat pieces. But I now have some complete grind, which has organ. I'm thinking if organ is causing the issues, then maybe I should feed the ground tripe, which does not have any organ, for the first week or so. And with the feet for 10% bone.

I've seen anywhere from 60% to 90% bone in chicken and duck feet on bone % analysis resources.

This did make me LOL. I started trying to do my own mix of raw meats and balancing the ratios and it was a lot of work. Then I noticed Em was not chewing her bones well enough and would pass an occasional whole bone which was scary. I found a supplier that sells the grind with the proper ratios in 2lb chubs. I use one in the morning and one at night (feeding my little mongrels as well) and it is super easy! You MUST post pics of the pig head treat!!!
