My Roxie has what appear to be pimples or lesions on her chin. Any thought s as to what this is?IMG_2489.JPG IMG_2490.JPG IMG_2491.JPG

Agree with kingmark. My dog had these and the vet said to switch to stainless steel food bowls.

All her bowls are stainless and cleaned daily. However, I have some plastic bowls around the house with water in front of registers, in an attempt to humidify the house when the air conditioner runs. She may be getting in to those. I'll eliminate the plastic immediately. Do I need to go to my vet for a prescription ointment, or can I treat the existing pimples with OTC ointment?

I think you dont have to go to the vet ,that water from air conditioner could be the source of little bacteria alone and also its of plastic, so move that from her and in few days it should be all fine. Maybe you can wipe it a little with some sort of cleaning or desinfecion fluid. Btw you could post some pics of your girl :)

My cat had that and it was due to using a plastic bowl. Stainless steel bowls only.

I'd start with an OTC chlorhexidine spray or pads first. If that doesn't work, antibiotics might be necessary. My dog only uses stainless steel bowls, but still has really bad pimples. The only time it cleared up is when he was taking antibiotics for his paw.

I found a 50/50 mix of water and Apple cider vinegar wiped on his chin, and they patted dry helped with Kryten's acne.

Daisy used to get outbreaks of acne like that despite us using stainless steel bowls . They would look quite sore and occasionally bleed as well, even though she didn't really appear bothered by them . She hasn't had anymore outbreaks since she turned about 18 months , so I'm wondering if it may have been hormonal like a teenage phase? I also clean her wrinkles and chin with some Aloe Vera& Chamomile baby wipes regularly.

My Ella had the worst acne of any dog I've ever had. It was much worse when she was getting close to her heat. The adolescent months were just horrible. We used stainless steel bowls and washed them with dish soap after every use. Keep the face as dry as possible. Cleaning with a cider vinegar solution can help. Some people use Stridex pads. Chlorhexidine pads work too. Maturity is the only thing that really helped though. She's almost five and hasn't had a pimple in over two years now.

Thanks to everyone for their input. She's started to clear up pretty good. I removed the plastic bowls in front of the heating/cooling registers and wiped her chin with a cider vinegar/water solution. I now have 3 stainless water bowls around the apartment. Cleaning them is part of my mourning routine.

My mastiff had the pimples on his chin like these....they eventually cleared up at about 9 months. We use stainless steel bowls but I haven't the foggiest if they make a difference. I clean the bowls with vinegar once a week or so. Someone here said that the slippery coating on the bowls was bacteria. I was also told, "Don't pop the pimples....they will go away." One mastiff owner here said that the vet gave her anti-biotics which helped the pimple situation, but made the dog very loose. Have a great day...those pimples don't look that bad to me.

Both my bubs had this during their adolescent stage. And I have always used stainless steel bowls. I asked my vet about it during a routine checkup and she said that dogs get pimples just like humans, mostly during their "teenage" years. Nothing to worry about, just keep an eye on them and be sure to clean the bowls regularly!
