Looking for a reputable breeder

I'm new to this forum but am looking to get help finding a good Bullmastiff breeder.

I am in law enforcement, I work long hours I'm married with 2 very small kids and am looking for a good family dog thats just as good of a lover as it is a protector, without overdoing it. A dog that will be intimidating and make my family feel safe when they are at home but is also a member of the family. After doing endless research my wife and I determined we'd like a bullmastiff as it seems to fit exactly what we're looking for.

I live in South Texas and am looking for a good breeder. They don't need to be close by, im really just looking for one that's reputable and ideally one that breeds either brindle or red but ill take any color at the end of the day.

Any and all advice is appreciated.

I do not have a specific breeder recommendation. But, based on your description of family and work hours, do your research both about the breed and about other breeds. My Bullmastiff is now 1 year of age. He is a great dog. But this last year has been a ton of work. I too work long hours, although not in law enforcement. I spent every morning walking the pup before work, most evenings walking the pup late at night after work, and every Saturday morning at dog classes. Did I say this has been a ton of work? Any puppy is work to have a well trained dog, but my sense is that he has been more work, if only because of his size and the need to be absolutely sure I have control.

Welcome aboard~ Did you check the breeder sub forum? Have you checked with Great Plains Mastiff Rescue? Welcome

Thank you. I didn't find the breeder sub-forum. I am in favor of rescues and have used them in the past but in my circumstance I feel much better getting a small puppy that can grow with my kids.

I understand the work and control issues I was raised with pitbulls and various other breeds which my mom bred throughout the years. It's my wife who lacks the experience but I'm willing to put in the extra work required for the bullmastiff breed. I have also considered Great Danes but my wife and I felt that a bullmastiff would be a more rounded dog with the traits we desire.

Right after memorial day I bred my male with my friends female. We are not professional breeders by any means just happen to meet at the store one day when they were both pups. My buddy is only breeding the female once because he wants a male pup and then they are fixing her. Just heard from him today and she has gained 22lbs and they are taking her to get and x ray tomorrow to confirm. (previous blood test came back negative on july 9th). I have since moved away but they live in pensacola, florida. My Male is a red and the female is a brindle. I can give you more info and pictures if you are interested. They are both beautiful dogs with great bloodlines. If your interested let me know. Thanks have a good day.

I dont know bullmastiffs from experience. I am an EM owner but I can say you can't go wrong with a mastiff. They are truly amazing.
You say your wife is the one that lacks experience. I have been raised my entire life with German Sheppards and well honestly I didnt think dogs could be SO different.
Mastiffs are very stubborn. More then what you read about lol.
Maybe find out if you can find a place near by that your wife can go to an hang out with mastiffs. It's constant training even when they are no longer pups. They are big and powerful and you can not let them think they are superior to ANY one in the household.

My husbands parents raised English Mastiffs and my father in law was the first one to tell me to prepare myself for the uniqueness of a mastiff.
I would also like to say from just reading a thread on rehoming a mastiff that you truly cannot be prepared for the slobber and hair.
You will not regret having such a loving, loyal member in your family.

I will never be without a mastiff. Well unless I can no longer care for myself lol
If a mastiff is what you want then go for it. You will be awe struck

There are tons of threads you can read on training, health, personal experiences and proper diets which is different for mastiffs then most other dogs

One more thing. Unless you plan on taking in a rescue or rehome please please do your homework on the breeder and the parents. It will be worth your time and money in the end

Just my thoughts!
Welcome to the forum and good luck on your search:)

Bullmastiffs are great if not the best dogs in my opinion but you really do need to read up lots before getting one if you havnt already they really do need an owner willing to put the time into them . They are very loyal , self assured , stubborn! And very protective and without warning sometimes . Not suitable for off leed dog parks etc or off leed period in public and that's not because they may start trouble it's just they will not be stood over and will react and seriously they are very powerfull and apart from being hard to pull of another dog you may find you and your bullmastiff in lots of trouble if any serious injuries to another dog etc . So my point is they are a huge responsibility not your average dog . But they are amazing dogs with The right responsible owners. Hope u find your pup but just make sure u read heaps on them first . Cheers GOODLUCK
