Well Mr. Junior has ingested something he shouldn't have, and is now spending the day at the vet. I "noticed" something was wrong yesterday when I came home at lunch to find his kennel and surrounding area covered in vomit... He was acting a little off and didn't want to eat either. So I clean him and mess up, eat my lunch (barely) and went back to work. The wife comes home shortly after on her lunch break and calls to tell me he's thrown up again. Great, now I'm thinking there is a blockage, been down that road before. So I call the vet, they give me the usual instructions, boiled chicken, rice, little water, see what happens. He wouldn't eat anything last night and the only water he wanted was from the toilet. I know, I know, gross. Usually I keep him out of it, but like I said, it was the only water he would drink. This morning I took him to the vet because he still wasn't eating and was acting a bit lame. Lame as in no energy. Quick X-ray showed he ate something, vet said it looks like a corn cob... I don't eat corn. She also said it's made it to his colon, which should be good if it continues on it's path. Hiccup might be them needing to help him get it all the way out. Of course worse case is they have to do surgery... I'm keeping my fingers crossed that they don't.

My fingers are crossed for you.
Been down that road before with the surgery and it is not a fun (or inexpensive) one.
Hopefully it will come on out on it's own, has made it that far.
Is good though that he can still drink.

A corn cob ...? Sounds odd, but hopefully it moves through on its own. If not, he seems like a strong a healthy li'l guy so I'm sure he'll pull through it just fine. Fingers crossed!

Well... it turned out to be almost worst case. He does need surgery unless he passes this thing tonight or before tomorrow morning.

One word. OUCH

750 for services rendered tonight, and around 16-1900 for tomorrows surgery. Can't wait to tell my wife this news...

Oh ouch! I know large-breed surgeries can be pricey but that seems steep even to me! Poor little guy. Hope the object passes!

I'm not sure what to think this morning. He woke me up early like his usual self, howling in his kennel. I let him out and he's acting like it's business as usual. Feed me! He doesn't understand or care what might happen in a little bit. Feed me! Like the dang plant on Little Shop of Horrors. I swear he is talking! We go outside, pee, no poop... But the shape of his stomach is even back to normal today. Past two days it literally looked like I was starving him. As I'm typing this he's roaming the front room and kitchen looking for morsels to eat... Ah, and trying to eat the catheter bandage on his front leg. Nice.
On a side note, they had him heavily drugged last night. His side is shaven and they stuck a feneral(?) patch to administer pain meds. It lasted for about 3 hours at home before I took it off, he was just way too out of it. Started getting leg tremors when he was awake. Might not have been the best thing to do on my part, but it was my choice.
I guess we'll see what happens at the vets this morning!

He pooped!! :D And what a momentous poop it was! I'll just call it 4th of July butt. Anyway, yeah, I think it was a damn corn cob... I wasn't going to wash it off, but it sure looked like it.

What an emotional ride it is too. Even for the employees at the clinic, they love him there. The surgeon and manager actually high fived after I told them he went. LOL Now after it's all done, I'm drained... But happy. ;)

What is a soother?

Oh! One of the techs told me they had to remove a pacifier from a Corso last week... Scary stuff.

Hooray for poops! So glad he worked out the thingy (corn cob, whatever it was) and spared himself and you guys a lot more trouble!

Good to see he's ok and on his own! I worry about boarding or leaving my EM with anyone because the moment you take your eyes off them is when the trouble comes.

Congrats!

Indeed! Case in point. As I was throwing the corn cob into the outside trach can (so he wouldn't eat it again...) I looked down at him and what do you know, he had a damn ball point pen in his mouth!

Oh the joys of having a puppy :).... I know I'm constantly removing things like pine cones from Moose's mouth. Always nice to know that I'm not alone!

Wooo hooo so glad to hear he passed it! Ugh these buggers can get into anything. We have dealt with rocks, dog tags, frisbees and those are just the ones I remember.
