Jump on people..

when he jumps up, pick up your knee so that his chest hits it...dont knee him, just make it uncomfortable. You definitely have to be consistant with it, and tell others that he jumps on to do the same thing. Some people also say that you can step on their back feet too when they jump up, but that could potentially injure a young dog if you arent carefull. I just did the knee thing, and scolded him. He doesnt jump up on anything anymore. Hope this helps.

Putting an arm forward to block him works also, but you have to ensure he doesn't think you're hitting him. You can try turning away from him and giving him no response until he stops as well but the problem with this can be that it might make him more insistent before he realises that jumping up isn't getting him what he wants. Whatever system you use, however, the keys to success are patience and perserverance.

you can also turn your back toward him, usually after a few seconds/minutes the dog will stop and in some cases sit...when he does that's when you can give him attention...if he starts jumping again turn away from him and ignore him again.depending on how bright he is...sooner or later he will make the connection that when he jumps he gets no interaction but when he offers the appropriate behavior he does. i have a dog like this and I only give him attention if he is laying down so now when he sees me he automatically offers a sit or down.

Mastiffs are strong willed dogs and sometimes the same tactics that work for a Cocker Spaniel, don't work for a big dominant breed. I've had to get pretty ugly with mine in the past. He's 4 now and its smooth sailing. Can't remember the last time I hade to snatch him up. Another thing that you could try that dogs hate is get an empty metal coffee can and put a handful of change in it and shake it really hard in his face when he tries to jumpm. Positive reinforcement seems to be the trend now days with dogs and kids. I believe that positive reinforcement should follow the good deed but I don't act positively towards bad behavior. I have a good, well behaved dog that favors me, the disiplinarian, over the others in my family and I have good kids. Works for me.
