Introducing Elly...

TodAy was gotcha day for miss Elly. She is a seven-ish year old female Dogue de Bordeaux who was obviously used as a breeder at a puppy mill. She is as sweet as they come but it will be awesome to see her personality blossom as she settles in.

So far everyone is getting along famously. She obviously does not know her name or respond to any commands so some basic training is in order. My biggest challenge is going to be she is not food driven in spite if being 5-8 lbs underweight. I've never had a dog that didn't care about any kind of treat. To get her to eat her dinner of raw ground chicken blend I had to take her away from the other dogs and hand feed her.

I think I'll try some satin balls and see if I can use those as treats.

Oh, she's beautiful! So happy for your family!

I always took that same kind of picture of my foster dogs. You get used to looking at them and you can't see any improvement. Give her a week. I bet you see a difference in next week's picture, even it it's just a little.

Congrats! I thought Mutt wasn't food motivated when I first got him, but now he's worse than Hector. He was very sick and just not bonded. Just give her time.

Absolutely! She has been amazing her first day! Today Elly has already taught Emma how to swim in the deep end of the pond. Not really deep but further than Em has gone before. Hand fed breakfast but she ate it all! :)

Thanks for asking, she is doing great! Today is PGD5 (post gotcha day 5) and she is gobbling up her food, eating satin balls as treats, playing with her siblings and is starting to act like a dog. I still haven't gotten her up on the couch with me yet but I have high hopes. She loves swimming In the pond and is just a joy to watch her settle into the good life!
