In-state breeder vs shipping Cane Corso

Hi everyone,

I'm currently doing my research into breeders of the Cane Corso to decide who to go with for my companion dog. My wife and I live in NC, and there are several breeders in the state that are drive-able that I could use. However, my main concerns with choosing a new puppy are temprament, health, and buying from a reputable breeder. Some of the breeders I have looked into in NC are: Basilicata Cane Corso, Pirates Den Cane Corso, and Cape Fear Cane Corso. I haven't seen many people here recommend these as much as some other breeders outside of the state. As far as outside the state breeders I've also looked into are CastleGuard Cane Corso, Gator Country Cane Corso, and San Rocco Cane Corso. Knowing the breeders that I have driving access to in NC, is it worth it to go out of state and ship a puppy (or fly and pick him up myself), which would obviously incur some added cost, or are the breeders in NC reputable enough that I don't have to look outside the state? Thanks everyone.

I know Francine (Bacilicata) and she is a wonderful lady who is getting started in her program. Not seeing a lot of recommendations doesn't always mean they are not quality. It can mean they don't breed often, it can mean they have been out of the breeding scene for a while or just starting out. Look into all breeders closely, ask those who have dogs from them and research the lines they are using.

Thank you! It seems her dogs (Bacilicata) are from Avalanche and San Rocco. If you search "Avalanche cane corso reviews" it doesn't seem to be very nice; however, I'm not sure if those reviews are just lies posted in an attempt to ruin their reputation. Any idea? Her dogs certainly "look" gorgeous. Thanks.

I don't think she has anything from San Rocco but had planned to use it as her kennel name but when she tried to register it someone else had registered it. Avalanche has been breeding a while but seems to be hit or miss with what you get. I don't know that they health test ( could be wrong, they might do hips) but I don't know how much they breed anymore as there were some bad reviews that I think hit hard. Francine's dogs are gorgeous, we are actually using the male she used in her last litter for our next one :)

Thank you for all of your help and good luck on your next litter!

Personally, which ever you choose... I'd go pick up the puppy in person.

I know lots of people successfully ship puppies all over the world - my boss got a labradoodgle from Australia who was a happy, well-adjusted pup - but it just seems like a LOT of extra stress to put on a puppy at that stage in their life.

I actually got my boy from Gator Country. I've had nothing but good experiences with Vicky. It's a personal preference of mine to be able to go pick the pup up in person though.

Vicky from Gator Country has been the nicest and most likely to reply breeder with whom I have contacted. I would go pick up in person any puppy I choose.

I personally have an English Mastiff and love him! I would like to buy a Corso after I retire in the future. I am not familiar with the breeders you mentioned, however my friend adopted one from San Rocco. I don't know about their lines but I know the owner travels to Italy alot and upholds the standards in Europe that my friend said are stricter than the U.S. I would think that is a good thing, but as I said I am just learning about the breed. I can say one thing....I have searched and searched long and hard to find a puppy that looks like his (Blue Brindle) and I cannot find any in my State. He has already won every dog show and his puppy is only 7 month old. I have no intentions of traveling like my friend did from Cali to Virginia just for a puppy. The downside is San Rocco is not a big kennel and a hobby breeder, so they do not breed much.Does anyone know where I can find a breeder who has blue brindle colors in Cali and raises their puppies in their home like San Rocco?

Thank you all for posting on forum.
I read it about a year ago, and i helped me choose breeder. I chose San Rocco, they had a champion import I wanted pup from. My dog is 10 months now, best temperament, very healthy. I recommend them San Rocco CC. I put photo of my corso in my profile.

personally i prefer to see what i am getting. however, if what you want isnt close then you have to use your best judgement with a reputable breeder. i like to see the parents, kennel, conditions. im just picky like that. trust is earned not given with me.

I just recently adopted a puppy from San Rocco.
I chose this breeder cause of the blood line. I live in Jersey so I did have to drive more than 5 hrs but worth every mile driven. We love our baby girl. She is highly intelligent and has a great temperament.
