  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

I'm beyond livid....

Wasn't sure where to post this but here goes.

So today I picked up my daughter for summer vacation, she brought along her little Shorkie pup (Same age as Greta) and what do you know? The little rat is INFESTED with fleas, i have never seen so many on such a little thing before. I'm pissed because was I informed of this? Of course not, my ex apparently didn't think this was an important piece of information for someone with 2 large dogs. I have both of mine on frontline but good grief this is bad and i'm afraid they might spread. Upon getting to my house I immediately shaved the little thing down to at least eliminate some of the little demons hidings spots, gave her a flea bath, got a flea collar and immediately gave her a dose of frontline. Even after all that I have picked off a good 30 live ones from the little pup and still keep seeing some. I'm hoping they die off and don't spread to my girls....god i hate fleas.

Anyone have any advice how to get rid of these awful things without costing me an arm and a leg?My girls never have flea problems and i don't wanna start now. Ugh i'm so stressed now, not exactly what i wanted to deal with for the last 4 hours after picking up my little girl :(

Sorry to hear that! I hate when I take my girls/boys places and they pick up fleas because someone else doesn't treat their dog :( I can't offer much help more than you already have.

Ugh now I am itching!

well, please don't fuss too much about them in front of your daughter or talk bad about the momma. That being said, I am working on the same issue here in Alabama. We didn't have a winter and the fleas have been out since mid march here. We use frontline on the dogs and revolution on the cats. I vacuum daily and am spraying a pine sol mix all around my baseboards and windows every other day. We also bathe them weekly. I check often for ticks too. There are pills, I forget the name but I will find it and send it to you, that can be taken daily by the dog that will make the fleas die as soon as they bite. :pray:Good luck and remember, you are gonna make good memories and this is a great time to teach your daughter the responsibility of pets and how to take care of them. If the ex won't, then she can be a big girl and do it herself. Have fun and relax hope this helped.

its just so aggravating when you spend so much time making sure your dogs are happy and healthy and then something like this occurs and you feel like its going to wreck everything :(

No worries, I never bad mouth her mother regardless of how much she may deserve it....well, at least not in front of her ;)

My daughter knows i'm irritated but I've made it clear its not at her at all....just the situation. I'm cooling down now thankfully and just gonna keep trying to get rid of them before all hell breaks loose. Definitely let me know on the pills, i would greatly appreciate it. She's still learning about responsibility and pets, tends to forget and i have to remind her about keeping an eye on the little one, take her outside periodically (I sent the damn thing to her potty trained and of course that's not what's come back completely), she'll get the hang of it i'm sure. I explained to her regardless of how tired you are, not in the mood and so on, a dog is essentially like having a child....you must always maintain a degree of focus on them...especially at this age. I won't let this ruin anything, we're having a good time even now watching her silly cartoons and she's cutting apart a stuff animal and sewing it back together (i'm not sure the fascination with this but it makes her happy).

This might help. It is a spray that will deter fleas from your dogs and will help keep them off of the dog.

Ingredients:
1 tsp of apple cider vinegar
1 cup of dried peppermint leaves
1 cup of dried eucalyptus leaves
1 cup of dried bay leaf
2 drops of cedar wood essential oil
2 drops of Lemongrass essential oil
2 drops of rose geranium essential oil
1 tsp of white vodka
2 cups of water

Directions
In a saucepan, bring the water to a rolling boil. Remove the water from the heat and place the dried herbs into it. Allow them to steep for 20 to 30 minutes. Drain the water into a spray bottle and discard the leaves. Allow the water to cool completely. In a small bowl, blend together the essential oils, vodka and vinegar. Make sure they are completely blended. Transfer the essential oils into the spray bottle that the brewed tea is in and cap it. Shake the bottle until the ingredients are thoroughly combined. Spray your dog down until he is well coated and rub the mixture into the coat. Do not spray the head or face.

Any unused spray should be refrigerated.

A holistic health store or shop with aromatherapy or a soap section will usually have them. Apple cider vinegar, bay leaves and peppermint leaves should be at the grocery store.

We use trifexus I think it is on one dog and another pill on the other. It's good for 30 days at a time. I'm affraid all the treatment in the world wont help if the other house aint treating the same. If the yards full, the dog will come home with fleas probly. On the pill they wont touch the dogs. But I would do some research on them.

A cat I adopted has fleas wasn't as bad as your situation, though but I bathed it in dawn which helped. Thor wasn't on any preventative at the time so I had to out and buy something. I understand your frustration, I hate fleas and ticks such useless things. Ugh.

Good news, woke up today and i couldn't find a single flea on the tiny one! I think my aggressive approach made a big difference, i'm going to give all 3 of them a bath later today to make sure and probly another at the end of the week to make sure none hatch and re-infest. I'm still going to look into the other suggestions, i don't want this crap happening again.
