I met a guy...

at the BM Nationals. His kennel name is Hillsborough Bullmastiffs. His dog was really stand-off ish; wouldn't let me pet him. This guy said all of his dogs are like that, because they guard the property & his cattle against coyotes. Really interesting guy. Anyone heard of him? A lot of the people there knew him, & his dog Nyx who was on the circuit a couple of years ago. Beautiful dogs, very structurally sound. Not crazy about that temperament, though.

AK I was a little jealous, just looking at this dog, & listening to this man's stories. Evidently he had a litter from what he called a soft bitch, one who what I would probably consider friendly. He then tried to take her out on rounds. I'm not sure, but I think he owns hundreds of acres for his cattle. He said he always goes out armed, due to predators, & he just couldn't trust her to not get flaky. Wow.
The other thing I was impressed with, was the fact that all of his dogs are brindle, & they're all reverse brindle. You KNOW you can't see those dogs in the dark. And that's the whole point. So even though his dogs would not fit into my lifestyle, I'm glad there's someone out there who is actually working their bullies.

I don't know what what the temp is like on BM's but from what you said sounds like the kind of BM I might interested in.

I am a new Brindle Bullmastiff owner. I have never met the person you are referencing but it sounds like Bill Arrington of Green Mountain, NC. I came across his website some months ago and remembered the cattle/brindle bullmastiff combination.

Here's his link: Nyx Bullmastiffs

Love the brindles! Got a red/fawn girl to cause it was my boss' preference (wife) but next when is a brindle boy for sure.

Yup; that's him. Beautiful animals. Pretty nice guy, too.

Wow he has gorgeous BM's. Mario is a brindle (really dark/hard to see at night) bullmastiff & such a great fit for our family. At this point we won't even consider another breed. I'll have to show my husband this site.

I agree it's great to see these bully's out being worked. :)

I, I'm Bill Arrington
I was sent a link to this discussion. I do use my Bullmastiffs
or work on my farm. We have poachers, Poacher dogs, Loose dogs,
Coyotes, bear and other critters uninvited show up at our farm. We have Cattle, Chickens and bees. My dogs all differ slightly , but I am working to have Bullmastiffs as they were originally bred to work. Generations of breeding and selection have produced some brave working dogs. I have trained guard dogs for 39 years and when I am in a potential deadly situation, I want a dog I can trust my life to. Not a mean or viscious or crazy dog and especially not a timid dog. My dogs are not timid. They are to the bullmastiff standard and cautious of strangers. Each of them are incredible house dogs and love family and friends visiting. I don't mind talking to people interested in working dogs and prefer direct knowledge to 3rd person. Thanks, bill
