And ditto Cody: If he's already reacting negetively to minor new things you need to get him out and socialized ASAP

So whats the proper way to socialize? with treats and strangers? I feel like i would be forcing him if people were to touch him.. and that leads to him snapping

I agree get them all out on your own. Puppies this young together can start to bond to each other and become the pack trying to put you as the low man on the totem pole.

With a breed like a corso that has the potential to be a little more "protective" we don't wait until the vaccine regime is finished (just a side note that a lot of stuff puppies pick up are come from the areas close to the vet's office as everyone is letting their dogs do their business before going in so I tend to carry my dogs into the office) but limit the areas you take the puppy to areas that are not densely populated with other dogs all the time so you are hopefully less likely to pick something up.

Alright. He's had two shots. I don't know how much good they'll do that young, but he's had two.

Avoid dog parks still. Mary's point about carrying him into the vets is a good one, and I'd not let him walk around inside or outside a petstore just yet. Pretty much anywhere else is fair game. Friends and family, their dogs as long as they're healthy. At your house AND thheir houses. The outside areas at non-pet stores. You don,t have to force him to interect right off, but he needs the exposure to see it. Then you can expand to interaction.

What exactly was the 7in1? If you don't know ask your vet please. And I'll do up a vaccine post for you.....

So, the breeder gave 2 vaccines prior to you taking him home? Is that right or did I read that wrong?

Here's what I think. From what I've heard, puppies thrive off mother's immunity up until 6 weeks. When I got Duchess she was given a vaccine at 6 weeks. I can't remember for the life of me what it was. I think 5-1. But I basically ignored that as proper coverage. I waited until she had 2 sets of veterinary given vaccines before I took her anywhere.

I started this thread earlier today and it might help you a little: http://www.mastiff-forum.com/showthread.php/7994-Getting-CC-to-Tolerate-Strangers-in-Show-Competition-Setting. With my puppy I never force him to let anyone pet him, I let him sniff the person first and see if he is ok with them. If he doesn't try to get the persons attention or seems uncomfortable then I don't let them pet him. You want him to see that not every new person is a threat and if you say the person is alright then the dog shouldn't react. I'm still not there with Rolex but that is my ultimate goal for him.

One from the breeder at 6weeks and one at 8 weks from the new vet. AND the 2nd one is a 7 in 1 which is making me cringe.....

Big Blue, the shots are to frequent and started too young. here is the proper schedule

  • 6 - 7 weeks - Combination vaccine (without Leptospirosis)
  • 9 - 10 weeks - Combination vaccine (DHLPP or similar). Bordatella if required.
  • 12 - 13 weeks - Combination vaccine (DHLPP or similar)
  • 12 - 16 weeks - Lyme Disease (if required)
  • 14 - 16 weeks - Rabies vaccination
Use your discretion on the rabies. If you can get away with it go over 6 months for that one. Personally I do not socialize with other dogs until all the puppy shots are complete.

Ok didn't see the 6 weeks start off so maybe not too young. I like to people socialize as early as possible then doggy play after shots are done.
