How much weight gain after 18 months?

    All,
Generally (on average) and based on your experience, how much weight do Mastiffs gain between the age of 18 months and say 4 years? Bane is turning 18 months next week. He‘s close to 34in tall, and weighs about 215lbs. However, he still very much looks like a puppy. His face, he is pretty lean, and hasn‘t really filled out too much. A general idea would help. I understand that there are way too many factors to consider for an accurate prognosis. He was the biggest of his litter. Unfortunately, I don‘t know anything about his brothers and sisters. Some recent pictures below. Most people guess that he weighs between 150-170.

In general, and across several large/giant breeds, this is what I've found.

Year one = primarily height. Weight too, but pretty balanced with height.
Year two = weight, maybe a smallish gain in height.
Year three = mass/bulk. Head broadens, etc.

That's just been my observation and many of those dogs have been altered by age two, so that may make a difference. I'll be curious to see what other people say.

As always, thanks for your input @Boxergirl ! At a high level, this is definitely in alignment with everything I have ever read and heard. I‘m pretty sure he‘s done in terms of height. Maybe 1/2-1 inch more, but that should be it for sure. We are glad he‘s still lean and athletic.

2 of mine did the norm as boxergirl said.
Gandalf however grew until he was 4, hes tall for a cc at just over 30 inches and weighs 138 llbs. Which surprised me as hes very athletic looking, but muscular.

Mr. Chev weighs 175 with one leg hanging off the scale on the floor---he is 4 years old. We go out for a "out-of-leash" run most days, and he is fairly athletic. I didn't keep records of earlier years, but he seems at about his max. His daddy, however, was huge....sorry I can't add more. Chev in weeds 4.jpg

i'd agree with boxergirl and glen's experiences …. when I paid attention to how my dogs grew I wasn't keeping males , but I believe they would mature 10-15% over what they would weigh at a year …… smaller type dog than an English mastiff , but the males would mature through 3-4yrs and the females 2-3yrs ……...

Great insight. Assuming year one + 15% would get him close to 230. His parents are 225 and 185.

Kryten put on about 20 lbs after 18 months. That said he is about 15 lbs under an ideal weight for his body. He did fill out a ridiculous amount however. Kryten was a slow grower, he didn't finish filling out until just before he turned 5. He also had a major interruption to this growth at 16 months when he had his first surgery. He lost 20+ lbs in the week following it and it took a couple of months for him to get it back

As always guys, great input! It‘s fascinating how Mastiff pictures can be deceiving. On some, Bane looks like an underweight puppies, and on others like a full grown dog.

Someone posted a chart here on the forum long, long ago...

The version of it I kept shows 18 months to be 77-79% of final adult weight... so, 215lbs at 18 months could get to 270lbs when "done" filling out, which might not be until he's 4 yrs old.

But, each dog is different... these are just arm-waving guidelines...
Denna hit her final weight at about 3.5 years. She was just over 80% of the way there at 18 months.

  12. Is this for both sexes? Is this before spayed or neutered? What happens after spayed or neutered?
