  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

How long to wait?

Did she get her shots? Either way she has had quite the assault to her body. If I remember correctly, trifexes has comfortis in it. Cane had bad reaction to comfortis. As a matter of fact a lot of dogs have had reactions to it.

I agree that the spot on her back looks like a hot spot.

I'd give it more time. Titan skin got worse before it got better on raw diet. It's sorta like the body is getting rid of all the toxins from the body on the raw diet.

Oh yea, agree, spots are hot spots. I always forget about hot spots because I've never had to deal with them.

Her "spots" are now red and bumpy, just like her ears, and the hair between them has started to fade, as if it's going to be one huge bald spot. The skin on her whole back is very flakey, and there are random red bumps on her underside. I'll get pics after her nap.

She's a little itchy, but not so much that it interferes with her daily life.

The pic looks like demodex mange to me. Bathe her in Dawn dish detergent. It will kill the fleas. Comb the coat after bathing to see if fleas remain.

To start the battle against the fleas, sprinkle your carpets with table salt. Leave the salt on the carpets for about 2 days and vacuum. Remember keep the vacuum emptied after vacuuming. Re-sprinkle the salt. Flea eggs have an incubation period of 9 days before hatching. Continue the sale treatment for 2 weeks.

Buy some DE and sprinkle where the vacuum does not get to, it can stay there forever. Make sure it's food grade DE (Decotamis Earth, not sure on spelling). I ordered mine from Amazon, paid $25 for 10 lbs. I used maybe a lb.

Bathe the pup every other week with Dawn.

Deb this is what I use. I couldn't find a flea and tick preventative I trusted. A great dane owner at one our meets recommended the Triflixis (sp) I did research on it with mixed results.....I've been using the DE for about a month and find NO MORE ticks on Stone, Mason, or myself :) Highly recommend the stuff its cheap and it works!

I agree, DD, the DE is awesome and works. I have it sprinkled under my bed, couch, behind my couch and bed. Bye bye fleas! I add orange or lemon oil to Titan's bandana and apply skin so soft to ward off critters too.

I hate flea treatment chemicals.

Same here:) My friend told me about DE she used it on kittens when they would get fleas. I did all sorts of research for flea and tick preventatives, but like you I wasn't keen on the chemicals. I used to find all sorts of ticks on Stone ( they like him for some reason) Mason would bring in a few, then I'd find some on myself...now I haven't seen any at all. But I think I sprinkled to much DE the whole house was chalky LOL!

Now if can find something for mosquitoes......

Well, I won't be using flea treatment stuff anymore. I didn't want to this time, but oh well....

I use natural stuff whenever possible, and only use medication if absolutely necessary.

I ordered this from amazon.com (someone gave me a giftcard for the PERFECT amount!) http://www.vetaidproducts.com/about.html

I'll give the raw diet a little more time, but if it's not the fleas and the spray doesn't seems to help, then I will have to explore chicken allergies as the culprit...

That Vet Aid wound care looks pretty good. I didn't find any bad reviews and it appears to work for hot spots.

Keep us posted

I completely forgot my puppy first aid kit..... When we first got Mayzee and decided not to follow the typical vaccination guidelines, I ordered a Canine Care Kit from Amber Technologies, in case she came down with Parvo. I just walked by where I had it stored and took a look at the paperwork. Whaddya know.... One of the herbal remedies, Vibactra-plus has antibiotic, antioxidant, and anti-microscopic parasitical properties. This will help treat her and narrow down the possibilities. I aslo have a vaccination and wormer detox herbal complex that can be used with the Vibactra-plus.

If the antiparasitc herbs work, great. If not, I have an anti-inflammatory complex that might help if it's allergies...

Yay!! So glad I am able to use this care kit, and not for parvo!!

Talk about being prepared... :) I usually consider myself a prepared person but you beat me.

Lol, thanks!

It was more of a "keep the vet off my back about not vaccinating" thing. To show that I made a well educated decision and am prepared for the risks. :)

It stinks that I didn't think of this sooner!

Are the spots moist(weepy)? After seeing a better picture I'm not sure it is hot spots.

Has he been wet lately?

I just looked up trifexes and saw several people complaining about hair loss after using it. Also if the chicken you are feeding your dog is enhanced you can get reactions. Some chicken is salted or MSG is used to enhance the flavor. Also if it is grown on antibiotics your dog could react to that. Just like we can have a reaction to penicillin so can a dog. The dermatitis you are showing almost looks like a mite thing but is could be severe allergic reaction. have you considered Benadryl?

lizzy-troy, since you are bent towards the natural route (as am I), you may also want to consider ordering some Colloidal Silver for your first aid kit--it is amazing, taken internally and applied externally for wounds, bacterial infections and just as an overall immune booster. It works very well, is safe- I use it, too. :)

This is the one I use: Amazon.com: Colloidial Silver Immune Support 16 Ounces: Health Personal Care

How could I have missed that, too!? I have some nano silver liquid that I could give her, and I need to get some more coloidal silver spray; the one I currently have has tea tree oil in it...

No moist or weepy, just dry and flakey...

I forgot to check for enhancers with the first few days worth of chicken, but I checked what she's eating now, and there's nothing added. Not sure about antibiotic raised or not...

I'm going to use the herbs for "microscpoic parasites" to see if it helps. She had a few bald "spots" before taking the trifexis, and they developed to what they are now at a steady rate. The medicine dididn't seem to change how fast the hair and skin was going bad.

If the herbs/silver seem to help, then great. If not, I may switch back to a chicken and grain free kibble to see if that helps...
