How come people are so concerned with their dog's size?

The funny thing is, I read this thread yesterday and took my BM to the dog park last night. A lady asked me what his breed was and when I told her she commented, "I never would have guessed, he's awfully small for a bullmastiff", I did tell her he's only 9 months old but didn't tell her that he's already 120 lbs.

Wow, ya'll are cracking me up!!! And everyone down here seems to know exactly what Mamie is. Everywhere we go it is "Oh look at the mastiff puppy" or "wow, she must be a mastiff". I do prefer the one guys"hey what is she?? She looks just like a mastiff."LOL I will say she is growing faster than I had anticipated at the rate of about 1lb a day right now. We have been going to the vets a lot lately duet to her surgery and she is weighed every time. Even a vet we saw monday saw her again today and said he thought she was bigger, yep, by 4 lbs. They say not to worry this is normal. But in the month I have had her, she has out grown both of my daughters and is 62lbs today, biggest 5 month old I have ever seen. View attachment 6708View attachment 6709 This only 1 month difference, but 22lbs later, I can see it.

Its definitely noticeable! I just wish I could lose that much in a month, :D

Heh. Remindes me of some years back. We're going on a camping trip and I'm trying to load the EM and BM in the back of the Excursion. I pop the door open and expect them both to jump up with their front legs and wait for me to lift their rears. Well this time the BM jumps right up in there! I was so proud she finally got her butt muscles working. After some praise towards her I look over at the EM.. He's got this look like, "well, this ass ain't gonna lift itself!".
Junior is 13 months and he's more than happy to have me lift his rear in. He know it so well. I toss a cookie in, he pops up with his front legs, then slightly lifts his right leg for the boost. Who's trained who?

My boy totally does this, even though he's completely capable of jumping in the back seat of my Explorer! He gets his to fronts up, then stops and turns to look at me like "Ok, lift me up". So I grab one hind food and give him a boost. Silly boy!

They're all such spoiled babies!

I had a man tell me today that my EM is way too small because he is less than 100lbs. Kryten turns 4 months tomorrow!

That would be another ignoramus, confusing an EM with a BM. Sounds like he's going to be a monster if he's that big already.

It's funny, as I have the opposite concern. My rotties got obese, so now I am paranoid about him getting too "big". If I ever post a pic or stats asking if my pup looks alright, believe me, I am not fishing for compliments on how huge he is. :)

LOL, same here, I think I've posted twice making sure Branka wasn't looking too fat... she always seems fat too me because I'm used to seeing my Doberman. Size wise she's kinda runty and I'm ok with that :)

In the photo thread for Jagger and Hoss's play date is a perfect example of different growth rates for the same breed. Jagger is taller but thinner than Hoss and Hoss is a stocky 85lbs already at 4.5 months. I was worried about Jagger at first (I am sure ya'll remember the 15 posts lol) because he goes through "leggy" stages. Since having him for awhile now I can see for myself when he is about to sprout again....Jagger 9wks 16.9lbs with leo.jpg Jan...Say cheese!.jpgmarch...JaymeJaggersleep.jpg April...Jagger May11.jpg May! He is still leggy and I am sure he will stay that way for awhile :)

In the brief time of ownership I have realized, as in pretty much every other aspect of life: People just like to talk and tell you how much they know about EVERYTHING !!! Everyone knows more about my dog then me and insist he needs to be bigger, smaller , darker lighter, meaner , etc.... I just nod in agreement as I have lost the drive to correct or defend as stance ( I'm usually in sweats and flops just trying to stroll thru the park w/ my lil dude).

I have come to the point where I compare it to guys who approach my girlfriend about her tattoo's in person and on FB, She and I feel its just the lowest form of conversation, just keep it moving , b/c if you think she wants to hear " Nice TAT's ! " ......... just redundant.

Im not trying to be sinical or a DB, but I never thought that my breed of dog would cause mental exhaustion on almost every public walk. :)

Congrats! ^ That's quite the name to live up to lol!

We are definitely not a typical name kind of family, afterall, my kids are Abria, Zuri and Dason, hahaha So we wanted something unsual for him and even if he doesn't live up to it, we won't be disappointed! Main concern is his health and happiness :)

She looks pretty good based on those photo's, an overhead photo would be helpful though, to see how much of a waist she has. She might be chubby at the most, but she doesn't look fat to me.

I'm pretty concerned with figuring out how big Nala is going to be (EM X GSD) just because my Jeep Cherokee is older than I am and on it's last leg. I don't know if I'm going to be able to get a car, or if I'm going to need another Jeep!
Nothing wrong with another Jeep, I love them! Just worried about MPG.

I have a pickup Thor fits just fine lays in the back seat. If I get another GM that might be a little more difficult.
