HI everyone :) I actually have a question about a puppy I just adopted+++

I just rescued this puppy from the shelter, he had a broken elbow and had to have surgery on it, poor little guy is healing quick, but he still has a ways to go. They let me take him home while they continue his medical though :) I love him so much, his name is Duke :)
Anywho, he was labeled as a pitbull mix, but since the shelter is full of pits Im wondering if they just labeled him that and he's really a cane corso, I know it's probably hard to tell just by pictures, but I was hoping you guys could guess? Either way I love him to death LOL. I'd like to know what he is bc Im a nerd and love to research everything and i have no idea which breed to spend hours reading on!

Also, I feel he is huge, too huge to be a pitbull, and his face doesn't match our other dog's face exactly, something seems different.
Anyway, here he is just turned 12 weeks and he is 34 pounds. o_O HUGE, right? Our overgrown pitbull is 87 pounds as an adult and I feel like she wasn't even as big as he is at that age

Also, if he is a cane, any training tips/advice you want to throw in would be great :)

I don't even know you but I love you!!! Thanks so much for taking this "little" guy in. I wish I could be of help in identifying his breed but as close as I can get, is he is one heck of a cute dog.

Good luck and thanks again for rescuing.

Im sorry I cant figure out how to edit, They didn't have him labeled as a mix, they said he was a pit. I figured mixed with some type of mastiff b/c of his size and I stumbled upon Cane Corso. I've never actually heard of the breed before! They are quite adorable

He could be a mix of CC and Pit. It has happened many times before... There are avid CC owners here that will chime in I am sure. Thank you for rescuing.

I am of no help either on identifying him. He is absolutely precious tho. Thank you for rescuing and welcome to the forums.

I remember reading a story about shelters mis-naming non-pit dogs as "pit" 75% of the time... and missing another 30% that were pits, but not identified thus... but that could have been backed by genetic tests which are sometimes not reliable, too... and the problem that "pitbull" is not a defined "breed", per se, anyway...

But THAT puppy is TOO CUTE!!!! I can see how he got you hooked, for sure. :)
Looks like real sweetie.

His head shape doesn't look as wide as a lot of pitbulls that I've seen, and the legs certainty seem long enough to suggest CC, but I'm not an expert.

He definitely has the terrier ears (high on head), but he could be a total mix of who knows what! He's adorable! Congrats!

I love it!!! I would of swopped that guy up in a second! Mucho props my friend!!!! He looks somewhat similar to my Zeus so maybe he could be CC boxer mix, although my cc/boxer doesnt have quite as much jowls as your baby, or any of the other beautiful pure CCs on here. Keep us updated with pics!! Love the color

Thank you for rescuing the little guy and he's absolutely adorable! I see pit and maybe some CC. You'll be able to tell more when he gets little older. Hope he heals really fast!

I'm not seeing corso, but you never know I suppose. If you could get some pictures from the side of him standing, that might help... Whatever he is he's adorable :)

I can't help with what he is but just wanted to say he's cute. Sorry to hear about his elbow. My EM had elbow surgery 3 weeks ago, doesn't seem to slow them down does it?

Welcome and thank you for taking in this handsome guy and giving him the home he deserves! I would not say he is a Corso, maybe part but his head/eye set/ears are not CC. I would guess there is pit in him, probably some mastiff that could be Corso. regardless he is damn cute and I can't wait to watch him grow up on this forum :)
