Here we go again...*warning graphic pics of stool, not for those with a weak stomach*

Woke up to this mess today. Nothing about Stella's diet has changed. Normal activity and mood yesterday. Today she seems normal as well. I gave her pepto and a spoon of yogurt (no food). She got better when I cut out pork. Now she gets about 60% beef and 40% chicken. She has also NEVER had diarrhea like this. I was cleaning it off the walls it was so bad and the pic is showing one of three similar piles... Advice/suggestions appreciated

Has she been tested for giardia?

Her physical conditon is good (body weight wise) and she's height/weight where you expect her to be right?

I had a stool sample taken about 3-4 weeks ago when she had bad diarrhea and it came back clean. That is why I stopped giving her pork. But she hasn't been tested recently. And physically she looks great. About 105 and just turned 11 months. Feel her ribs but not see them sticking out.

Anything she could have possibly have gotten into that maybe you aren't aware of? Has she pooped again yet?

I believe giardia is a different kind of test that they can run & it has to be specified. At my vet they have just the regular fecal test & then they have a fecal test + giardia. I would ask your vet about it bc to me it just sounds familiar with some of the clients we had with dogs that tested positive for it.

It was awful. It was a weird texture. I don't understand how some pieces were totally solid and normal and then, well, the rest wasn't.. She did have bad gas last night! And no particular odor to the stool. She is acting hungry right now but I think I'm gonna fast her. The meat she had yesterday was super fresh, good cut.

I'll call my vet about the giardia, I had no idea it was separate from a routine fecal.

Oh and I can't think of anything she could have gotten into. We did a hike yesterday morning, she played with my aunt and uncles dog for a little, then she chilled the rest of the day. But she was still playful and alert. Her poo was not entirely normal on the hike though. She went a little bit and it was soft. But she was excited and it was such a small amount that I wasn't worried. I didnt see any of her bowel movements since the hike an this morning though. But all week she was normal; solid and small poops.

It's like half digested. The bad part looks like Parvo poop. Is the odor horrible, like spoiled eggs and sewage?

How long has the pork been cut out for?

Also, sometimes dogs that are on trails/do a lot of hiking might need to be fecal tested more frequently than the normal once a year that vets usually recommend. Personally, I would hold off on any more pepto as this might mask symptoms if there is something serious going on...hopefully not :)

Parvo usually has a bunch of other symptoms too, including signs of malnurishment. Though I suppose if she's only JUST been infected.....I was thinking about some of the other conditions that can lead to chronic diarrhea, ie: kidney problems, pancreaus problems, but again, in those cases the dog generally shows signs of not getting eough nutrients.

I know this sounds odd and gross, but I know what Stella's poop normally smells like, and it smells normal.

And pork has been out for about three weeks.

I know she drinks from random streams on the hikes, I try to stop her as much as possible. But the trail we went on yesterday had no streams and I didn't see her mess with anything (I don't let her out of my sight on hikes). But today when she goes again I will get some for a fecal and girdia test.

I jut gave her a little pepto an yogurt to make her feel better. I can't imagine how bad my stomach would feel if I were her.

I know of some dogs being almost Lactose Intolerant but then again she would be REALLy REALLY Flatulent before she made a mess like that.

She wasnt really gassy, just odd because she almost never has gas and she had a little last night. I've been giving her a spoon of yogurt for a while now without issues.

I just feel so bad, like I'm doing something wrong, yet I try so hard to give her a good diet. First thing people say when she gets sick is that it's "probably because I feed a raw diet". It's disheartening and frustrating.

I tried yogurt and it did not help us as much as cottage cheese does. But any sort of dairy product could also cause this as well. Try to go bland, hamburger or chicken and rice or oatmeal. I know grains can cause issue, might even try just plain ole ground beef not cooked just plain.
As for the hiking and streams is it running water or still water. Running water from the snow pack is usually cleaner than your tap water and i always let my dogs drink from flowing creeks. Even the slow creek in my backyard. I never have blaster butt with them.

Let me take the running water thing back. Some people say you will get parasites from creek water. But what do I know just been doing it for 40 years up here myself.

Some are flowing and some are still, it's warming up here so they are drying out. The last time I saw her drink from one was on Wednesday, and it was flowing. Would that diatomaceous earth help with any potiental issues from drinking that water?
