Hell in a Handbasket

Well I consider ya'll my friends and I've said it before. What I meant was like friends that could help me dig a ditch or go for a slice of pizza on a moment's notice. Well, actually they couldn't help me dig a ditch. The lady weighs maybe 90 lbs and is a total priss, the man had a seizure and messed up his shoulder during the fall. They both like pizza though  They also about 25yrs older than I am.

Here are my thoughts on asking for help. There was a time, when I was getting divorced, that I just couldn't make ends meet. I got a second job and was gone 4 days during the week from 6am - 10pm and worked most weekends. I had 3 kids ranging in age from 16 - 8. I had decided to keep them in our house even knowing what a struggle it was going to be. Almost as soon as I got the second job I got hit with a garnishment for a credit card that was the ex's but considered marital property. Then I got hit with an IRS lien, then the water heater went out. Just one thing after another. I'm a person of faith, so I got on my knees and prayed for help. All of a sudden people came out of the woodwork to help me. A neighbor gave me money every month saying it was part of her tithes and she could see I needed it more than the church. Another person brought me fresh veggies from her garden. A friend who worked at a dealership helped me get into a more dependable car for a much lower payment. The blessings just kept rolling in. I ultimately got a new job with a significant pay raise and quit the second job. I did have to make some tough decisions like filing bankruptcy to alleviate some debt he had run up without my knowledge, but I vowed that once I could I would help others the same way I was helped. There are many people who want to help others and just need an opportunity. You're not asking for a handout in my opinion, you're giving me an opportunity to pay it forward.

Good vibes.. sry bout all the issues.. cant blame a perfectly behaved dog going completely the opposite when mother nature calls. Just remember it's not Hanks fault he has the natural urge to mate. Just hoping that things get better for you and your family

Thanks everyone. It means alot to my family.

It is sometimes hard for me to really comprehend what's going on in his cinder block head during this mess. He's limping around everywhere because he has cuts in between his pads and nails on both feet, 2 nails each from pawing at the broken glass. It's like he will sacrifice his life just to get his stick wet. He's having a really hard time peeing. Still refusing to eat kibble. Constantly whining, the whining never ends. Even now he is laying next to me whining. If I don't make him lay down he will pace and pant and cry and try to escape anyway he can think of.

No more males, ever, that's for sure. Where they sacrifice their lives to breed the females will do everything to ensure her own health and that of her litter. Plus she is a sweetheart and he is a brute(atm)!

He will prob eat after she is out of heat... just my opinion.. I've almost exclusively had females... you can buy sperm or pay stud fee easier than renting a womb.. if you want to breed.. again my opinion.. just keep remembering it really is not hanks fault, he is only trying to do what is one of the most fundamental laws of nature... breed..

I've been following along and I feel for your situation. I guess my question is why is he not neutered? As much as I love my dog, you can't allow the dog to destroy your home and ruin your quality of life. It defeats the purpose of having a dog to begin with.

He isn't neutered because I had plans that have fallen apart and because I was not in a position financially to do so. He will be getting neutered as soon s his more immediate health problems are addressed and as soon as I can afford it.

He is limping really bad today. He has cuts under his nails into the pad. We are trying to keep them clean so they don't get infected. The soonest I can get him into the vet was Wednesday.

For the feet - I'd slather with some neosporin and put some socks on him for a few hours a day (if you can get them to stay on that long)...

Thanks for the tip! I've basically just been hitting then with peroxide a couple times a day trying to keep them clean. I can visibly see he's in pain poor poopers. :'(

You can also soak the pads in epsom salt water mix 2x a day. Neosporin will definitely help. Hector also didn't eat for weeks when neighborhood dogs were in heat. He redirected to my old female. He regained his appetite once the heat smells were gone and then more dogs came in heat and the obsessive behaviors came back. I'm really thankful there was no destruction or urge to run away, just redirecting on the old female and trying to rape her.

Weird-- I have an intact male, and I have a couple of friends with intact females, in the neighborhood. Once, we ran into my friend with his Giant Schnauzer-- I noticed that Mateo was sniffing her more intensely (basically had his head shoved up her backside, lol). Finally, my friend casually mentioned that Onyx, his female, was in heat. Crap! I pulled Mateo away, and walked away (apparently it slipped his mind that Mateo was intact- oops.)

Anyway, it wasn't a big deal, really; I puled him away and we walked off...he wasn't crazed in the least. Same thing with my friend and his Akita-- she was just getting into her heat cycle, and Mateo wasn't bothered so much...

Maybe my boy doesn't have the same testosterone levels as Hank; he's interested, but not to Hank's level...

That is a stunning trail of destruction. Here's hoping the road leads up from there. He definitely seems to need an extra safe and secure place to be when he's not with you, eh? We had a black lab like that. Ate though the wall to get out. Broke a horse hitch to go after a bear. It's crazy how strong they really can be.

I think the problem is living within sniffing proximity + being left alone with no redirection = a maniacal Houdini on steroids with a nothing hurts bleeding won't slow me down mentality.

It's one thing when he's on leash and/or gets a sniff and is told to leave it. It's another when there is no one there to tell him he's acting like a sex crazed perv

Well, he's a "guard dog" now lol. Everyone at work loves him, and he loves the attention. He's going to be a local celebrity before we know it people won't be coming to by hardware or building materials they'll be coming to see Edgewood's biggest dog :giggle:

So I cleaned Hank's paw paws with peroxide and put neosporin and some socks like DennasMom suggested. He isn't very happy with me
