  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

He doesn't have a name yet but I have decided the he is ours......:-)

Taping for 8 months!! Yikes!! Hopefully it won't take that long. I am going to have a consultation with the vet right after I get him home so he can be evaluated. The vet said that if he can and does do the crop, he will wrap his ears before he comes home and after 10 days I need to bring him back and have the stitches out and he will wrap again for a week. After that he will look at him again and decide if he needs to wrap again. He said some pups only need a few weeks and others may require just a few more. He told me that his nutrition during the 10 days and then the week after his stitches are out are of upmost importance. If I make sure he eats really well and gets what he needs, he will require less time wrapped. I am going to stay open to it for now as I really do love the look and then make the final decision after the eval. I really am dying to see new photos of Mason. Maybe the video you have been hinting about??? It is just mean to withhold photos of a dane puppy while I wait for mine to be old enough. Have some sympathy? LOL

You know, the more I say the name Magnum, the more sure I am that it is the right name. I like the two names together, too Ruger and Magnum. I think this first time Dane experience is going to be something else and I am so excited to introduce him to Ruger and then deal with all of the new puppy, Crazy, giant puppy shenanigans!!!

LOL!!! I just depends like I said Mason is a heavier line, compared to your boy. Also again the ear leather, I know of some dane owners who have been taping up to 2 YEARS!!! That is crazy o.0 I'm hoping at least 8 months or sooner, if they even stand at all. When I had Duke his owners told me that they stood after a week or two of getting cropped. Talk about a dream no taping, haha.

Your breeder is doing the right thing by only giving you the responsibility of the after care. Once the stitches come out you've pretty much passed the hard part. Taping might be a pain depending on how rough your boy likes to play, but the supplies used allow movement so it isn't too bad. I also like how your vet has everything planned even through the follow up. As I said take your time :) with the decision. I thought about it for years, at first I always wanted my danes cropped but Thor and Stone I left natural, I like both looks when it comes to the Euro line, but I like crops on American line danes. Don't know why....

What you have own dane puppy to fawn over with, haha! He even has the heart shape to prove it, LOL. Maybe I'll post some next week.

So it that a third vote for Magnum. Haha! Kris I hope the bug stays with you. I like more protective breeds but I'll have at least one dane in my life. Truly like nothing else I've ever owned. I can't wait for Ruger to teach him those shenanigans, :D Stone has already taught Mason the fine art of landscaping and eating goodies in the cat little box. That and trying to eat my steam mop.

Drool over Magnum. Make sure you wipe you keyboard though, LOL unless you want to embarrass your girl! Then she'll have to go back to smoking and drinking again.

Kris I think its official! Magnum, it just rolls haha

with all the dane ears we have cropped or cared for over the years at my office most need to be posted/taped for a long time to stand correctly - I have never seen a dane whose ears stood after 2 tapings - LOL - and if the puppy is not cooperative it makes retaping a nightmare - we pretty much don't do dane ears anymore since it is a hassle for everyone including the dog LOL

Kris I just found this thread and I gotta say, Magnum is not the pup for you and Ruger, he is the pup for ME!!! Sorry but you are going to have to tell the breeder you can have him and you want me to have him instead. I know you'll do it for me, being a friend and all that. Sorry Kris, life is tough but this little guy is just too adorable for words!!

Haha, I know the feeling. Luckily Mason is pretty good for the most part, he usually falls asleep. Yeah, that's the feeling I have too but I'm kind of mixed, most likely though my dogs will be natural.

That's what the family told me, but to be honest its not the first time I've heard of that happening. I wish it was the case with me :D

No problem. Keep it up until she finally breaks down and shares some photos. I want to see that puppy.
Sorry for hijacking your thread Kris to harass DD!!

Like I said, I am still contemplating but he is a trusted vet and I have been able to see his work at the breeders place and I am impressed. I will know more after I take Magnum in for his evaluation. The only reason I am even considering leaving him natural is because of Ruger. I have a feeling he will turn this taping onto a nightmare. LOL

I do consider you a very good friend which is why I intend to make sure you have tons of photos of Magnum. You will need them since he will be living with ME! LOL I agree that is he is too adorable for words and I swear, July 19th will never get here!!

Just a questuon because I know little about danes, but I saw pics of dad and you said mom was also a harl. Is not breesing too harla togwther frownes upon? I thought there was a "double harl" gene similar to the "double mele" gene, that can cause aome diasterous health problems in the pups? Is this just a myth or is there something to it? He is absolutley adorable by the way!
