Hazel Incontinence

So we got hazel spayed 1 week ago. She was 7 months and 1 week. I did my research about spaying and everything I red said to spay asap to prevent chances of any cancers and other complications. So I got her spayed before her first heat. 3 days later she peed in our bed. Something she has never done since we have ownd her. This was no light tinkle either. She emptied her bladder.we cleaned it up and didn't yell at her or anything. I just assumed she had trouble holding it because she had pain from her surgery. I googled it and then for the first time I read about spay incontinence. Now that night she held her urine allll night an I know she was holding it because as soon as I let her outside she peed like shed been holding it forever. And since then she's had a couple accidents on the hardwood floor like if someone comes over and she gets really excited but nothing like the day on the bed. Does this sound like she has spay incontinence? Or maybe just side effects of right after the surgery?

if it is incontinence have any of you experienced this? I read in my research there is a hormone pill that's common for this and very effective too. Any opinions?

I'd wait until she's fully healed before thinking about medication. It would probably be a good idea, though, to check and make sure she doesn't have a urinary tract infection of some kind that is irritating her and causing her to have trouble holding it. That's more likely than spay incontinence.

In the future, though, please consider waiting for spay/neuter until your large breed dog is fully mature. I know that when I breed Kharma, that will be part of the contract for her pups.

Why would you recommend to spay/neuter a large breed dog until fully mature? Just wondering:)

My dog was spayed at 7 months as well. I dont think that has to do with much of the pee effect. My pup who is 11 months now still tinkles a bit or a whole load of piss when she gets excited/pet by a new person. Hopefully its just a puppy stage and she'll grow out of it, she doesnt do it as much as before but she still does it.

Ivy,

There are quiet a few reasons why one should wait on spaying a large breed dog until maturity...

The biggest concern for waiting is so their growth plates are fully developed so they don’t have any growing/bone "problems". The subject can be a controversial one so do you research.
