"Happy Pee"

Our 7.5 month old CC is a piss squirting, shoe wetting wiggle worm whenever he sees someone he hasn't seen in a least 5 whole minutes. I have read a lot about excitement urination and submissive urination, and he certainly has a case of the former. I have read that they usually outgrow the issue by the time they are a year old...and honestly he is getting better (or we are in our management of the situation), but I was curious if other CC owners have dealt with this, and if their dogs did in fact grow out of it by a year old. Cheers to hardwood floors...

Don't worry every CC does this i know a lot of CC and whenever i go away and return or see them they always pee on me that's a happy pee like u called it ... That's normal so no worries. And he will outgrow it and he won't pee that much when he will see a person he hasn't see for even a months :)))

My 4.5 month old does it but only with women with high pitched voices usually at the vet.

Denna had 'happy pee' a few times as a younger puppy.
You want to make sure you don't acknowledge the accident... if you can tone down the greetings until the puppy gets better bladder muscle control, that should help.
If you show any attention (good or bad) to the puddle, you might make the problem worse (anxiety pee or fear pee come to mind, instead of happy pee).
As for when they grow out of it, at 7.5 months old, hopefully you're almost there!

Our Gio is 8 months and still does this from time to time - hoping they grow out it soon! It's getting old telling people "you might want to watch your feet...he's gonna pee" haha

Capone, is 6 months and has the Happy Pee with the ones he loves. I am not an expert on this breed but I have never had a dog be this loveable with my friends and family. It is getting better but from the looks of it the CC is a very noble dog second to none.

Yep, Zoe does this too. We say "well, we know she likes you if she pees!" We are having my daughters birthday party next week and I am still not sure how I'm going to handle all the people coming. Zoe is 6m is this is our first time having more than 2-3 people at our house at once.

My Corso did this up until about 6 months, since we couldn't change his behaviors quickly enough, we changed our behaviors. We held in our excitement when we saw him after a period of being away. And the FIRST thing we did before he got any attention was to take him outside.

Re: "Happy Pee"

So, we have a 12-weeks old CC named Brooklyn and noticed this lately. Especially in the mornings when getting her out of crate or when we come home in the afternoon and announce that we are home; you hear her do it as soon as we walk in. Unfortunately, she also has, or hopefully had, a UTI, so that is not helping at all. Hoping she will outgrow it as wel, but we do have a friend with a Great Dane who pees buckets full as soon as he hears a whistle or someone with a very high pitch voice. Literally - a bucket full!

Re: "Happy Pee"

Not sure if this will help but, our former boxer did this until the day he died. When he was overly excited he would let out a bit of pee. This only happened in the house however, usually upon arrival after a long time away.

I second what many have said about not showing too much excitement, and letting them out as soon as you come come. I was young when we had the boxer (first dog) and we never really trained him properly. I'm sure that made the problem worse. Needless to say our house was under construction at the time and the hardwood floors waited until we said goodbye to our friend.
