Gorge and fast

Anyone do this method of feeding?

I've read some varying degrees to this method.

1. Feed the dog a larger meal and fast for 24 hours.

2. Let the dog eat as much as it wants and then fast the dog until it tells you that it's hungry again (could be a 2-3 days).

I do personally fast my dogs once a week, but I don't feed an extra large meal the night before. They fast for 24 hours, but have water (with a splash of ACV in it) and sometimes they will have bone broth, but I am wondering more so about letting the dog eat as much as it wants and then fasting for a couple days...

I have read that a dogs stomach can hold 6-7% of its body weight, so feeding 2-3% the dog never gets to experience a truly full stomach?

Just curious about other people's opinions on the gorge and fast method?

I would worry about feeding one of my dogs until she was full, I fear she would never stop eating lol.

I feel the same way about my girl. Angus is pretty good, but Thalia would eat until she exploded.

We don't practice gorge or fasting as a rule, but it just kinda happens around here.

We had a bunch of activities over the weekend, so Denna only got one big meal on Saturday - in the middle of the day - instead of her smaller breakfast & dinner portions. I'm sure she would have eaten 2x or 3x what I gave her, even then... and still would have been asking for breakfast the next day. She puts on padding in a hurry if we don't watch it.

On the few occasions when she's gotten more than she wants to eat in one setting, it's normally due to a big bone in the meal - which she gnaws on for a long while, then goes to bury the rest to save for later. We have rats in the 'hood, so I'm not too keen on the idea of leaving rotting meat out in the yard.

I personally don't gorge and fast...mostly because Mateo is really good at self-regulating. In other words, he will skip the occasional meal when the warmer weather comes (as in today, he refused his morning meal, so I gave a bit extra in the evening), or when he is excited, or stressed (good and bad), or when he is ill. Not a foodie at all.

So, he fasts and/or stops eating when he has had enough. Nothing like my last dog, a Labrador...nothing in the world would cause him to skip a chance to chow down. Yes, he would eat himself into oblivion, LOL.

Yea I don't do the methos as well, I'm not against it.

I have notice my 1 1/2 year old male mastiff start getting picky at night, sometimes he just wants a small portion so I adjust with him.
