  • Welcome back!

We decided to spruce things up and fix some things under the hood. If you notice any issues, feel free to contact us as we're sure there are a few things here or there that we might have missed in our upgrade.

Going to see a specialist today

Poor you and poor Sadie!! I can see how you must be pulling your hair out, we worry so much about our fur kids that it sends us in a spin sometimes. I dont know what more to say. I think all the swapping back and forth is not helping give her tummy time settle and see how she eventually does with one brand of food. If it were me I would try a very good quality fish and potato based food, the best you can afford, for 3 months. Dont give any treats or additives at all, let her system settle and only have the one food to concentrate on and see how you go from there. If she starts to get fussy after a couple of weeks but her poo is better dont give in to her. Keep strong, she wont starve herself. After 3 months if all is well and you want to give her a bed time biscuit then choose one kind and give at one time per day and see what happens. If she gets a runny bum again then hey presto you know not to give that again etc. Well thats my 2 cents worth....good luck!!

Thank You. I know what you are saying. The specialist told me not to give her anything other then her kibble for a while, to see what happens. I was told by someone, when giant puppies grow they can get soft to runny poo. I do not know if there is any truth to that. I am just used to my lab (RIP) that could eat anything and never had diarrhea. I guess her stomach was made of steel.

Labs are garbage cans on legs LOL! They love their food and any food....unfortunately not the same for our Mastiffs....Moo had the runs the other week as I gave her too many treats in one weekend and she had her yearly shots as well. I went and bought some Pro Kolin and it worked a treat. It helps get the good bacteria in their tummys back to normal. After 3 days she was right as rain again. 1st day I starved her for 24hrs, 2nd day a little dry kibble only, 3rd day a little bit of meat and kibble, day 3 same again. All with the Pro Kolin. http://www.vetuk.co.uk/dog-suppleme...prokolin-antidiarrhoeal-probiotic-paste-p-249

Well......I think I need to find someone else. I was told it could be food allergies. DUH:p They wanted to draw blood and check her pancreatic activity. It could be her body is not breaking down proteins properly. I told them I will hold of on the blood test. I need to think about it to see if I should find a different specialist. I thought I was going to see the dermatologist for a skin scraping, but this was a internal specialist. She sent me home with some de-wormer (could never hurt) and was told not to give her anything other then her kibble for a few weeks. No treats.

It has not been brown water the whole time. More pudding like at best:confused:

Yah, go with something totally different, fish, or an exotic like rabbit. Just double check the ingredients for other proteins like poultry. And yah, no treats except for more kibble. For several weeks. And see what happens. When I get a minute I'll sit down and look closer at the stuff you've tried and see if I can find a ything else in common.....

Denna's been on the same kibble since we brought her home, and does find with 'solids' unless we add dairy (did a final test on that yesterday... and we confirmed, no more dairy!), or if we feed her too much. She doesn't think she gets enough food, but if we give her more, she goes to pudding... she's pretty trim, I wouldn't want her to be much thinner, but I do like it when I can clean up the yard, too.

We have a freezer on order... going raw next week!!

She is not malnourished. I think she looks good. You can see some ribs when she is moving and you can easily feel them. She is not acting sick. She has her energy and she is eating and drinking well.

I've been thinking on this. My cat has pancreatitus, and I've read over the EPI info, and I don't see either here. EPI, he'd be skinny, and maybe not growing right. Pancreatitus makes them feel miserable, Janie finds a corner to glare at the world from when she's having a flair up and she'll barely budge from it. She also vomits bile and has mucusy diarrhea. Barely eats. And thats not whats happening. Now maybe theres something else I'm not aware of, but I just don't see it.

I thought pancreatitis was more of a temporary sickness? Please do correct me if I'm wrong. I think my little dog had a short episode of it a couple weeks ago, she didn't want anything to do with food, vomited & had diarrhea a couple times. She's a finicky eater anyway & I can tell when her belly starts acting up bc I'll start hearing her belly "talk". Usually that means a puke is coming soon & I give her anti-nausea meds.

I can't offer any advice but I'll send you & Sadie some healing vibes that you guys find a fix soon! I know Duchess is going to miss her & Titan this weekend. :( but in a month she will be released from dr's restrictions & ready to go!

Yes and no. It depends on the cause from what I understand. In my cat's case her whole system is screwed and if she wasn't so cheerfully not in pain most of the time I'd have already put her out of her misery. But if the pancreaus is messed up for some reason it can be more constant.

That makes sense. My parents had a cat that had digestive issues ALL the time. She was a large boned cat, very long, big head & long tail. In her last days she maybe only weighed about 7-8 lbs. Ideally she should've weighed about 15 given her frame. But she threw up all the time. Couldn't eat fish products bc she would get so sick, vomiting & diarrhea. We had her euthanized last January when she fell into a funk & didn't bounce back. She was such a sweet kitty.

Thats Janie. We think it started with her thyroid, and I didn't recognise the symptoms at first, now her kidneys are shot too, and she has periodic IBS and pancreatitus. So far none of the flairups have last more than a couple days and she bounces right back....except for her weight. She should be 9lbs, last check up she was 6.75. Its just a matter of time.

I have done some research on EPI/SIBO/B12 deficiency. The thing that stood out to me the most in the early symptoms is the cow patty/soft serve stool. I am going to have the blood tests done just to make sure. I am going to make the appointment on Monday morning. Better safe then sorry.

Blood work won't do any harm, except to your bank account. And at best will rule something out, at worst it'll will narrow it down.

I am so sorry you are going through this. I know it's super frustrating. My puppy had stool issues for a long time. When I finally got those resolved, he developed skin issues. We went to see a dermatologist, but at this age there just aren't any concrete answers. Allergy tests aren't accurate this early.

Out of your list of foods, it seems the one she did best on was a simple ingredient formula. I would try to go as basic as possible and feed her a 2, maybe 3 ingredient single protein food. And stick to that for at least six to eight weeks. No treats and no chews during this time. I know it's hard with a puppy, but it will help you get answers. Mason's been on a single protein diet (pork) for twelve weeks and we just now started experimenting with duck. I also use coconut oil in lieu of fish oil to help stick with the single protein concept and noticed a significant difference in his coat sheen.

We did bloodwork, several fecal tests, skin scrapings, and DTMs before settling on the allergy diagnosis.
