Going on Vacation

We are taking a vacation in a few weeks and will be driving from Alberta to Lake of the Woods in Ontario. It's about an 18 hour drive and will be taking Jake with us. He is really good travelling with us, but we have never driven that far with him. I am wondering if any of you have advice on taking our dog on such a long car ride.

I drove with Mateo once from NYC to our family cottage on Lake Erie, Ohio. This trip was not as long as yours will be (about 9 hours each way), but it was easy.

The only advice I would offer would be to take Jake for a nice long walk before heading out, and making some stops along the way to stretch and relax a bit. I always tried to find some large grassy areas for rest stops; some have nice areas for dogs to roam around.

Of course, pack some ice water, and travel food if necessary....stuff you probably know anyway.

Have a great time; I am sure all will be well. :)

Thanks to the OP for starting this thread. I'm also interested in hearing everyone's advice on taking their dog on a LONG car ride, since I am planing on going down South and it's a 14 hour drive to where I am going. My CC LOVES car rides, and has great car manners, but the longest one he's been on was about 2 hours, so far. Maybe it's self-explanatory, but still would like some advice. :)
