Getting in the car

Hey everyone

Just curious how does your cane get in the car, truck or SUV ? With Sophie she can jump right in the SUV or car no problem if she wants to but prefers to put her front half on the seat and wait for one of us to lift the rest of her in . Is it just her or is this common with the breed ? It wasn't so bad when she was younger but now she's almost a hundred pounds its getting a little silly .

Yeah, Zeke tried that at about 6 mos old, but then I quickly realized that was gonna be a problem as he got bigger. So I started tossing liver treats up toward front and he jumped right in after them.

Then the little snot starting looking for the treats before jumping in so we went to intermittent treating and now it's just habit.

I think they will get away with whatever they can. Occasionally Juno will try just putting her front paws on the seat and looking back at me and depending on how hard she has been playing or my mood I will help her up but i have also seen her jump up a 4' retaining wall one time when she decided she wanted to be up there. I do always lift her out of the truck just because I want to limit the impact on her hips. Like you said tho at a 100lbs+ thats not real practical for most people.

Loki does the exact same thing. I am still having a lot of trouble trying to break him if of it. I use treats but he will still stand there fora few minutes waiting for me to pick his back legs up. Before I would give in when I was in a hurry but he is 115lbs now and I just can't do it so I use treats and however long it takes I just have to deal. It's shocking to me because he goes so many places with me it's not like he shouldn't have picked up the routine yet! Sometimes it's fast other times I get very frustrated trying to get him to move it along! Guess it depends how stubborn he is feeling that day.

Bella is the same way too....Just looked at me with those eyes like she way saying "But Mommy, it's so high and I'm so little...plz lift/help me"...haha...then 2 weeks ago I had to rehang all my bird feeders cause she was jumping at them and getting too close...after that I watched her the whole day practically climbing my tree to try and get those feeders!!! Next time she pulled the "can't get in the car by myself" routine I just looked at her and said in "that voice" GET.....IN.....THE.....CAR....NOW!!!! She got in by herself :)

After a two hour drive yesterday, we stopped for a potty break at a park... and Denna REFUSED to get back in the car (subaru outback). I tossed in a treat (which normally works)... no go. Pulled, gently, on her leash and she plopped on the ground. I gave her a dirty look... so she fell onto her side - behind the car, fully stretched out on her side, right in the MIDDLE of the parking lot!!! luckily, no other cars were around. I left her there (off leash), and went to the car and climbed halfway in and acted really excited at what I found... silly girl had to come see what I was looking at... and once she was heading that way on her own, I was able to convince her to go ahead and get it, so we could FINALLY get back on the road. Sigh.

Sometimes Trinity will use the step to help herself(Outback), but mostly she jumps right in. Just say car and she's bouncing ready to go. She loves going for a drive.
